Reviews of Home Services at The Home Depot
"Is there such thing as a negative star? I wish somehow there was. I am about to celebrate the one year anniversary of attempting to have a fully functional front door. During the original ordering process, there was an error and my order was lost and we had to redo it when I checked on the status. If only I knew that this would be the first in a series of disappointments. The door was installed by Home Depot installers and they seemed very competent. At the very end, my electronic locking mechanisms was hitting up against the frame. The installers tried to fix the issues but they took a series of measurements and told me that door was bored incorrectly and that the mechanism was too close to the jamb. They wrote this in the install notes and informed me that someone from the store would call me but that his recommendation was that I would need a new door. After waiting several days, I went to the store to check on the status. No one had actually checked the notes or had been informed. The person apologized profusely and told me that they would contact the door manufacturer. I was told that it would take several weeks to make a new door since it was custom. They would call if they needed anything. Approximately 8 weeks later, I had not heard anything and I went to the store. I was informed that nothing had been done. I was left with many apologies and a promise that it would be taken care of. I was put in the system and in the the new department manager's notebook. During this time, the motor in the lock stopped working and I informed they manager of this. Fast forward 2 1/2 months. Still no word on the door and I returned to the store. The person checked on the status and had to inform me that once again no work had been done. I again expressed my frustration at the continued dropping of the ball and what was going to be done with the lock. The employee was focused on the door. This then gets us to our next phase: The Great Finger Pointing. The door manufacturer was sure that it could not be the door and Home Depot was going back the original install notes. There were several months of back and forth messages of pictures. Home Depot did not send out a technician to take the pictures but rather had me. Not being a door expert, I did not always send out the correct pictures. Now we are at more than nine months and several visits to the store, i was now in contact with the door manufacturer, etc. I was stuck and no one from either side would say, "I will take care of this issue and keep you informed". When I expressed this they employee stated that she did not keep me informed because there was no progress. I reminded her that in the past, I learned that no updates meant that no work was being done and that is not how you work with the customer. A manager came up during this meeting and left about 30 seconds in. My confidence in this location's management is as high as with the employee. Today, I had a Home Depot installer come to my door. It was within the time that was specified and I believed that I may actually have a fully functional door. The first thing he does was apologize for the door. The door was poorly wrapped with some plastic wrap and there were scratches. He stated that it should have had wooden framing that would have prevented this. He also stated that the original installers may have been wrong about their diagnosis. So almost a year later. I still have my originally installed door which may or may not be bored correctly, a broken lock, and extreme disappointment in the Home Depot's ability to deliver a correct product. They deliver broken promises."
"This is solely on ARS services. Home Depot signed me up for $30 Diagnostic check (my AC was going out so I applied) thru their partner ARS that never called to check up on appointment, sent a guy out at 9pm (scheduled at 5pm), then claimed that there is a leak (AC/house is only 5 years old) and capacitor is giving out. He charged me $300 for 5 lbs Freon and attempted to charge $300 for a new capacitor that a place right down the road on 35 cost $30 to do myself."
"The store is fine, but we went though an awful experience with the carpet installation process. Horrible customer service. We ended up cancelling our order and going with 5 star flooring, who did an awesome job on our carpet. Lesson learned."
"HOME DEPOT CONTRACT SUPPORT SUCKS!! Home depot in general is a great store not for customer service but rather because everything you need to do a home repair is readily available in store. But, if you need contract work, you would be better off not relying on Home Depot support. There were 2 seperate occasions where we needed someone to provide us a quote on work we wanted performed in our home. Both occasions a contractor/ associate worker was supposed to come out to inspect the work we wanted done and take measurements so that we may be provided a quote. We were stood up both times. The kitchen cabinets we wanted to redo last year after being stood up by Home Depot we didn't take personal because we were simply price shopping at the time. Last weekend (Oct. 2015) we were interested in getting screen doors added to the front and back doors of our home and also wanted to replace our front door. We were told in order for this to take place we would need to have a Home Depot contract/associate come out to take measurements. An appointment was set for Monday between the times of 5-7pm but to my surprise no one showed AGAIN. Canceling plans so that I may be home to wait for someone only to be stood up can be quit frustrating!"
