Reviews of Pine Shores Rentals
"Just want to warn other potential applicants, the landlord/owner discriminates against people with Emotional Support Animals. They outright say so when you tour an apartment and say they will take you to court if you try to have one. This does not align with the Fair Housing Act, but I wouldn't want to live somewhere that discriminates anyway. Don't waste your time. I've lived at Sun Valley with my ESA with absolutely no issues. They were professional when I provided my documentation and didn't discriminate even though they also have a no pet policy."
"Pine Shores is a pretty almost subdivision like apartment complex, it is very quiet and peaceful. They have a small but decent gym for the residents. The only thing I didnt like and I caution others on is the moving out aspect of living there. They charged me 400 dollars alone for vacuuming even though I vacuumed it 3 times before moving out. This all came out of the security deposit even though no damages were done or repairs were needed. My deposit was more than 900 dollars and I only got back 250, I consider myself a relatively clean person and I felt almost scammed out of most of my deposit."
"I have really liked living at Pine Shores. I wanted to live a little bit outside of town in a quiet neighborhood. The management has been great and always gets things taken care of. Everyone is really friendly- the owner saw me moving in some things and offered to help me move. When I first moved in my apartment had been vacant for 4+ months over the summer and had many brown recluses (these are common all over Carbondale). I immediately called a pest service to do an initial treatment and got regular treatments done thereafter. When I told the management, they paid for the services I had used and shortly after set up monthly pest control for all of the apartments- without any additional cost to residents. They also sent out a request for information earlier this year and started building a gym- which few other apartments in Carbondale have. Pros: -Quiet neighborhood -Safe neighborhood -Vaulted ceilings -Garage- so nice in the winter! -Fireplace -Patio overlooking a pond - this is amazing! -Great management and owner -The apartments have a home-like feel -My apartment has laminate floors that look like hardwood -Lots of ceiling fans -Ceiling lights that dim -Open layout Cons: -No pets allowed (common in Carbondale) -High energy bill in winter due to vaulted ceilings -I will find one or two dead spiders every now and then after my apartment is sprayed- but I haven’t seen anything alive since regular pest control started coming -It’s a little further away than some other places, but I prefer this I have to move for an internship but had planned to stay at Pine Shore as long as I was in Carbondale. So far Pine Shore has informed me of showings for my apartment and I will update once I’ve completed the move out process. Overall, I absolutely LOVE my apartments and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to live"
"Great place to live. It’s quiet and out of town, the property manager Theresia is the best, always there when you need her. My only complaint currently is that her hours were reduced and there have been a few situations where it would have been nice if she could have been around. She always had your back and was able to get things done. This seems to be the general consensus of the neighbors. Other than that, you won’t find a better place to live in Carbondale."
""This is a great place if you're wanting somewhat inexpensive housing with a decent view away from campus, bars, and foot traffic. The pond and lighted fountain that many properties have in their backyard is a charming spot to look at or to fish in. You are only 10 minutes away from Giant City and the SIU campus. The property managers are fair, respect your privacy, and are invested in the residents' approval and keeping the complex updated." I still stand by my words above, but with new management, myself and other residents here have felt like our privacy is often not a priority. The pestering on whether or not we'd renew our lease started as soon as management was switched over or halfway into our current lease. We thought this to be too early and a bit ridiculous. Then when we finally decided to not renew our lease, we probably had up to 30-40 showings, which is more than I have ever experienced in my time renting, especially in this area. Some times we were given adequate notice but other times we had no notice at all. I would also come home from work to people working on my house, which I was given no heads up on. I have heard other residents complaining that dirt was tracked into their house, which is how they found out their place was being shown by management. I have since moved and will still say that this is a nice spot to live, but don't be too surprised if strangers start walking around your home without your prior approval."
