Reviews of Drake Plaza Apartments
"We lived there for 3 yrs. I had some challenges when we first moved in. Received great care from management and maintenance. It was great at first. Then parking lot gate is broken. Your paying for unprotected vehicles. Roaches started appearing. Even though they sprayed often, it didn't help. I sprayed in-between. Couldn't leave any food items on the counters, like bread. Everything without a lid most go in the fridge. But it got even worse. The mold in lower level laundry room was terrible. I felt like I was in a horror movie...creepy. I had to move. Now I'm living in a much better apartment."
"Parties, punks and parking issues. The only good thing I can say is the rent is "cheaper" and the lady who runs the whole place at least it seems she tries, but is surrounded by children and a revolving door of staff. This is a place were open door parties run until 2 in the morning. So boozed and blazed up kiddies of the neighboring university sports teams running around and fighting is a regular occurrence. Even one of the maintenance guys told me to leave, and then he left."
"I had the big ground floor street front apt next to where the barber shop is now. It was noisy at times, as expected with a ground floor apt. People probably didn't know it was residential and would hang out against the 2 big windows. This was out of the buildings control so I didn't say anything as there was nothing they could do. Then one February morning a drunk driver passed out behind the wheel and crashed into my living room while I was getting ready for school. The building made a small attempt to vacuum up some but obv glass appeared over the next 3 months. They installed some plywood boards over the window and promised it would be fixed ASAP. The boards remained, and remained, and remained. They left it there for 3 months before I moved out. It was winter and was killing my electric bill. It was noisy, it looked trashy. They were waiting for my lease to end to even bother replacing the window. Problem was I still had 4 months to go. I eventually got a job in Chicago and moved out (in May) one month before my lease ended, and they had the audacity to mail me nasty letters for breaking my lease a month early?! When they promised they'd work with me when it happened I should have got it all in writing. And yes I had been paying full rent the entire time. I will try to post up some pics that are date stamped. This place is shady, and they will screw you given the opportunity."
"This complex has been ran by poor management ever since Dean left. I have complained multiple times about my loud neighbors and nothing as been done. I also, didn't receive mail for over a week because management refused to remove the bike that was blocking the mailboxes. As for the apartments, they are not nice. They have old carpet, lots of bugs and bad appliances. It is close to campus, but so are a lot of other places. DO NOT MOVE HERE!"
"I would definitely recommend Drake Plaza for students. I lived there for 2 years. In this neighborhood, you have to choose between ridiculously expensive but nice, or a cheap dump that is downright scary. Drake, however, is awesome for how inexpensive it is. Everything is convenient, clean, and functional. The staff is pretty pleasant and helpful. The location is great too, the restaurants are superb, you can see the Arch, and there is plenty of entertainment. I only have two complaints. First, the "exercise room" isn't really much to brag about, and I've never seen it unlocked. Not a big deal though. Second, the bar next door, Dante's, can be a headache on the weekends. Their customers are very rowdy, loud, and usually hang out on the sidewalk directly below the south facing windows. Friday through Sunday nights, if you're a light sleeper, the drunks down below will probably wake you up. But that's not Drake's fault. For most people, these are probably minor inconveniences compared to what you'd have to deal with in other apartments, like being ripped off by the Coronado or feel unsafe in anything else that remotely affordable."
