"I would highly recommend not seeing Vanchhanna Bhatt in the internal medicine. I am a part of Northwestern for other care, and I will continue to be a part of it because I am happy with my experience otherwise. However, my most recent visit and experience is noteworthy, especially for the lack of honesty and care I received. I am currently 30 weeks pregnant. I saw Van Bhatt to get medicine refills that my OBGYN would not refill since it is something outside of my pregnancy. Bhatt put an order in for a blood test for me to take after fasting. I took it without realizing what it was testing for in my blood, and it included many things that would be considered high during pregnancy (which I later learned from a different doctor). Bhatt’s nurses called me twice on the next business day saying that I needed to urgently get in to see her because of my results. I asked both nurses if she knows I’m pregnant and that I have an appointment in two weeks, and they repeated that she wanted to see me as soon as possible. They managed to squeeze me in for an appointment the next day. This caused a lot of anxiety for me because it seemed like something was very wrong and no one was telling me why. My appointment ended up being worse. I already had a feeling she did not read my chart, which she proved in multiple ways throughout the visit. She walked in the room and told me that “I look different.” I was very confused because I’m 29 weeks pregnant, so yes, I look different. She then asked me “why do you look different?” Which I responded with that I’m pregnant. It was very uncomfortable. Then she proceeded to tell me not to stress, which I have been stressing about why she urgently needed to see me about the blood test. She then proceeded to tell me I have a high blood cholesterol and that I need to watch my carb and sugar intake. However, I just passed my glucose test two days before this appointment. I asked her if it was possible my results are high because I’m pregnant, her response was “possibly.” She then shamed me about my diet without asking me what I’m eating, and said I can’t take high cholesterol medicine because I’m pregnant so they will refer me to a dietitian. I felt like I needed to defend myself because I was asked no questions about my diet, she either didn’t know my cholesterol would be high at the start of the third trimester (which is common) or she didn’t want to admit she messed up. I then asked my aunt who is a doctor about this blood test, and she told me her practice doesn’t give this blood test to pregnant women because of the fact the results will be skewed. It seemed like I was set up to fail, and she would not admit that she was wrong. Then, probably the worst part of the visit after she was done pushing my pregnant stomach awkwardly, she asked me if this is my first pregnancy. This solidified my thinking she did not read my chart or her notes because my last visit with her I told her I had a miscarriage a year ago. I told her that, and instead of apologizing, she wished that this pregnancy goes well."
