"I am unsure about this place. I had to take a stray mamá dog and six puppies here since the Humane Society wouldn't take in dogs anymore. The young man that helped me was very helpful and friendly. I only saw her and her puppies pictures for a week. I hope they were adopted and not put down. I couldn't keep them since I already had taken in 3 animals."
"You walk in and there is NO smell!!! The cages are clean and so are the animals!! I would invite everyone looking for a great pet to Visit there!!!!"
"The hours listed should be changed to reflect that it's the office open in the morning NOT the shelter."
"Its been since april (7months)when we adopted our female husky to be the mate of our husky of 3yrs old from the same location. she ended up dying within 4 days after getting her so upset how our son had to discover death for the first time . Had a review over this situation but got removed. Its not worth on Wasting your time with this place .i highly recommend upon asking questions instead eagerly happily adopting an animal from there. Rude service. Animals poorly taken care of . Poor husky was malnourished to the point she didnt want to eat but just drink water.she kept throwing up not sustaining any solids . They Didnt even let us walk her around nor to see if she could walk willingly. Transaction was rushed out. Once we had her to our home and getting her set up our son tried hugging her but she growled like she was on defense mode . she was super skinny . we noticed her tongue was getting gray. We all knew she wasnt going to make it."
"I adopted two bonded male 1yo lab mixes from the Cameron County Animal Shelter in Nov '21. As a citizen of Harlingen I adopted them for the cost of their rabies vaccines. The pups were not neutered or vetted so I made an appointment for them to be seen ASAP. (Schedule an appointment or two with your vet ahead of time if you plan to pick up a pup here.) I am so thankful for the kind people at the shelter. The staff was extremely friendly to me and to the dogs. They were dedicated to making sure that all animals in their care were treated with respect and the dignity that living animals deserve. They keep the areas in and around the shelter clean and tidy. When I was in they were constantly receiving calls from people wanting to surrender their animals. I asked them if that was normal and they said they received calls nonstop most days. Be patient while calling them if their line is busy. I've had my dogs for almost two years now and I'm thankful that the guys kept them for as long as they did for me to come by and adopt them. They're now ~3yo healthy handsome pups and I know they'd love to thank everyone at the shelter for caring for them."
