Reviews of Apartments at Grand Prairie
"Edit in response to owner: they have been working with me, as I have been repeatedly calling them out on these issues. After very recently falling flat on the sidewalk, and almost falling multiple other times in other spots in complex, due to thick ice that could have been avoided (or at least minimized) if salt had properly been placed down and snow was taken care of in a timely manner, I am not inclined to add stars at this time. But I will be happy to update my review if conditions improve over a longer period of time. Original post: I would never recommend this place to anyone. I have spoken with others who have also lived here in the past and have agreed that this apartment is expensive for what you get. With the expense, I would expect to get higher service or a nicer place; but no, I do not. The management often does not even answer their office phones during regular business hours. And their business hours are only when most people work (9-5) so stopping in person is difficult. They say maintenance requests get done within 2 days but in my experience they take longer or they mark them as completed or "on hold" when nothing has been done. I was told the apartment was only 10 years old and newer carpet, but the place looks like it is 20-30+ years old with how beaten up it was and dirty. I literally had a full regular vacuum container full of dust and dirt from EACH ROOM when I moved in and several things were broken or clearly very poorly repaired. There clearly had not been an HVAC filter in place for a long time before I moved in as there was none in there and instead just thick globs of dust, so I bought my own as they said this was not something they would fix for 4+ days due to their holiday time off. I have repeatedly had to call about them putting salt on the stairs for standing ice, which they should be doing without my request. I am also learning first-hand that the sudden pungent smell of dead rodent in your apartment is not seen as something to them that should be investigated within 24 hours and during a regular business day. The management is friendly when you do talk with them, granted, but that does not make up for the copious issues I have experienced with this apartment. Overall, a huge disappointment."
"I had lived here for 2 years and the experience had been great. Property well maintained, pool area is nice and always clean. Staff is always helpful and nice. Editing review: It has been 6 months since I moved out and I still have not received my deposit back. Been told there is some kind of management changes and they are not sure what happened. Either way it’s not my concern and at the end of the day I don’t have my deposit back. I’m sure I will never see it at this point. Even though the amount is not large but still leaving this edit out of principle and for the future residences to be aware of"
"Part 2 All that being said, I can look past most of the cons I listed because it just comes with the territory of apartment life, which sucks even at the best of times, and penny-pinching residential groups. However, the final and most important reason for my rating is regarding safety, and unfortunately, earned this property an automatic 1 star when it was normally closer to a 4, all things considered. When the pipe burst in our building in December 2022 on Christmas day, I had just left our apartment less than half an hour before to spend time with family. I experienced no issues with the sinks or showers or pipes leading up to 12/25/22, nor did I have any problems unlocking/locking our front door. Shortly after I arrived at a family member’s house in East Peoria, my partner received a call from one of the maintenance guys asking permission to enter our apartment since we weren’t there; supposedly, his master key wasn’t working, so our front door was forcibly opened by a battering ram by the fire department. In place of Santa’s sleigh, two firetrucks were on site when I drove back to the apartment from family festivities to see what happened. It was a theatrical scene and distressing for all involved. Thankfully, our cats hid under our bed and didn’t escape. Not surprisingly, our front door and deadbolt were noticeably damaged, as well as the interior door trim and adjoining drywall (see photos). The broken door trim, hardware, drywall pieces, and screws were also left in our entryway to step on and clean up. To top it off, apartment staff forgot to turn our water back on within our apartment after whatever pipe issue was resolved on Christmas, so we were unnecessarily without water for a couple days; we weren’t updated about the water or front door situations on apartment management’s end, so I had to call for an update, only to resort to leaving a voicemail since no one was answering. I bought 10 water jugs and a pack of water bottles from Hy-Vee so we could use our toilets, have water to drink and brush our teeth, etc. and purchased a door security bar and body wipes from Amazon. I submitted maintenance tickets to have record of both the water and door issues, which seemed to confuse/annoy one of the maintenance guys when he had showed up to turn our water back on after I had left my first voicemail (one of several). Long story short, it took way too long to have proper security for our apartment, and the door was never replaced; maintenance installed a new deadbolt and hastily painted over the damaged door; I have no idea if it was ever replaced after we moved out in May 2023. We live a few minutes from a Home Depot if staff didn’t have parts on hand or the “door was on order” or any other excuse for not addressing the door and lock issue sooner. Whatever management or the Buckingham Group says in response to my review to save face or try to invalidate our experience, it won’t change the fact that water and door situation could have easily been handled better, but it simply wasn’t. I understand that it was chaos addressing the apartment with the burst pipe on Christmas and the apartment office being “closed until January 3rd”, but the fact that I had to reach out on my own multiple times to get any idea about what was going on, the fact that I had to spend more of my own money to feel somewhat safe in our apartment, which legally qualified as uninhabitable without a working lock, and the fact that there seemed to be either incompetence or indifference or both regarding our safety, personal property, and even the apartment group’s own property would be laughable if it weren’t so negligent. Maybe there would have been more of a sense of urgency if we lived on the ground floor, but that shouldn’t make a difference given this was a safety issue, first and foremost. Our apartment couldn’t be left unattended for obvious reasons, but thankfully, due to my remote job, I was able to stay home to stand guard like a dog."
"From the start of the application process Kelli in the front office has been nothing but welcoming and personable. Upon moving into the apartment it was a relief to know that the apartments were well taken care of and the cleaning to prepare for our arrival was top tier. In my time here Ive witnessed the entire staff working hard to maintain the upkeep of the property as a whole and Bill and Jason are two gentlemen that work in maintenance that I see constantly in motion."
"Kelli and her staff has been absolutely amazing from the moment I began my search for a place to live. As a service member who relocates every three years, this has been the smoothest transition that I have had in finding a place to live. They are flexible, very responsive, and care about their tenants. Great maintenance is hard in find in most places, but it is definitely well done here. Great job team!!!"
