"I had a horrible experience today with the nurses at advocate medical. I have never felt so disrespected in my life. Please see my message below. Dr Elgar, I want you to be aware of the disrespect I received today. I first spoke to the nurse Amy who asked what my pain was, I told her it was INTERMITTENT and when it did occur it was a ten, as it would make me be unable to move without more pain. I told Amy I was working and had a short lived episode this morning but that I felt fine and wanted it looked at still in case the pain continued. Amy then said, well you should go to a walk in. After I said no, she continued to remain firm in her disposition. Which makes no sense to me because I am mentally competent enough to know when I need a hospital visit . I said Amy “I’ve had very negative experiences in the health care field, I value my life, if the pain was CHRONIC I would go, but it’s not so I want to see dr Elgar , and I don’t appreciate you basically telling me you won’t make me an appointment. She then said hmmm have a good day and hung up. I then received a call from another nurse, Kathy, who confirmed Amy had spoken to me but notes were missing. Why is that? Because Amy ended the call without finishing her due diligence. I told Kathy I felt Amy was dismissive and Kathy proceeded to tell me how the have been dealing with “people like you all day” “We get ripped a new one all day” umm excuse me? Why am I being villainized because I adamantly want to see a Doctor Who I have a strong rapport with ? How DARE you. As a black woman in very sensitive times that sort of statement posted on social media would have protest outside of your office TODAY. How insensitive and poor use of rhetoric. People Like you???? I said there is a difference between ripping someone a new one, as Kathy phrases it, versus knowing my comfort level and having the RIGHT to have that respected. When I then have a healthcare provider (AMY) trying to deny me that right that is going to create a righteous frustration so do not tell me how to feel when your actions are the catalyst for my frustration. The fact that she, Amy, ended the call without even trying to schedule me an appointment is completely unacceptable and unprofessional .To add insult to injury Kathy went on to tell me how sweet of a person Amy is as if that matters to me. Serial killers have friends too.My point being, The relationship that Kathy and Amy share as colleagues is completely ancillary and Irrelevant to the Perceived disrespect and mistreatment that I received from Amy today. how condescending and unprofessional! this is not a sorority! this is a business !this is a healthcare venue. No Kathy, and Amy, people like YOU are the reason I fear seeing a new provider. How cruel and insensitive. I was not asking for an appointment today I was asking for first available so it took me speaking to two rude insensitive nurses to finally get an appointment for Monday. I will be keeping my appointment and I will make sure dr Elgar is aware of how PROFESSIONALS handled a patient. You all make a salary to speak to patients, so how dare you be so crass. Very dissatisfied . Do not cancel my appointments I will be there for both."
