"Recently, my son had a fever that lasted more than 5 days and I felt something was not right since he had a rash on day three which should break the fever but it didn’t. He also had a symtom of red eyes so I visited Dr Hampton and explained all the symtoms that my son was having. He didn’t take it seriously and said that it might be Fifth disease or something that will resolve itself. So I waited a couple more days hoping the fever will go away but it didn't. On day seven since fever started, I could feel that my son’s symptoms were getting worse and he had trouble walking and I could feel that his lymph nodes in his neck area was swollen. So I called Dr. Hamptom’s office again and asked for the advice and at that time I was debating whether I should take my son to Urgent clinic or ER. But, his nurse recommended me to bring my son again to be seen by Dr Hampton instead, and at that point, I knew that they are not aware of how serious my son’s condition is and what it sounded like to me is they just wanted us to come again to make a sick visit so that they can make more money. I am glad that I refused to listen Dr Hampton’s office. I took my son to Children’s Urgent Care in Southlake and they referred us to Cook’s Children ER right away. Urgent Clinic Pediatrician, Dr Owen, told me that my son had the symptoms of Kawasaki disease and needed blood work and other further evaluations in the hospital. We were fortunate that we caught this within 7- 10 days of initial illness, otherwise my son could end up having heart problem in the long run. I am just vey upset that Dr Hamton couldn’t tell how serious my son’s condition was when I first brought him to be seen with all the symptoms he had. I don’t think he is knowledgeable enough to assess my son’s condition. Now I know, any fever that lasts more than 5 days with red eyes and rash all over the body including hands, you have to suspect Kawasaki disease if the child is male and under 5 years or so. I am definitely swtiching my son’s pediatrician as of this incident!"
