Reviews of Dr. John E. Champion, MD
"PRO. You might like this place if you have several kids because he will get you in and out with little if any words and send your prescriptions in. CON. No bedside manner. He doesn't make an effort to talk to you or your child. Don't have any questions because he will reach for the door as soon as you mention you have a question and plans his exit strategy. I usually only bring her in when I feel like it's not something she can fight off.... so when I do bring her in I expect to be taken care of. I am paying for a service and my child is the most important thing to me. If nothing else at least keep the office clean, it's unacceptable."
"My kids go to Dr. Champion now I waited patiently for them to have a spot available for him to start seeing my kids. Dr champion was my pediatrician for 18 years. When I say the very best, he loves his patients and cares about they're well being. So if he fusses at you it's because he knows what he is talking about ,you are not the pediatrician just the parent. As much as we'd like to be right all the time, that's why we have him!! He has been very good with my kids. He is great. Staff is wonderful."
"Both my kids have been under Dr. Champions care for 16+ years and that says a lot! He's old school, not personable, is very short and doesn't beat around the bush, but as long as his focus is on my child's health and not my feelings, that is absolutely okay with me. He's caught my sons scoliosis on a routine checkup and my daughters scabies on a rash that had broken out. We quickly sought treatment and remedy for both with his help. His office will do their best to work us in same day and he returns my calls during after hours. I wouldn't trade him for another provider and I dread the day he retires."
"I took my 5 kids to Dr. Champion basically their whole lives until we moved. The first time I went to him my 1 year old son had been suffering from a rash for 6 months and a group of pediatricians at a clinic had taken turns misdiagnosing him and putting him through every kind of treatment and making me (a young mother) feel like it was my fault. Champion read his chart, walked in, basically ignored me as I was telling him everything I had told the nurses, looked him up and down and walked out. He came back told me to take him off the steroids and take dairy out of his diet and give it back to him later. His busy wasnt ready for it and it was giving him a skin rash! Only a Dr with decades of experience would have known that. I always liked Dr. Champion but after moving I realize how exceptional his office is. He is not talkative or personable. He walks in and back out of the room in 2 minutes. If he spent longer I would worry my kid was in really bad shape. This is also the reason they will be able to get you in the same day if your child is needing to be seen. He is fast. He is also thorough with experience, and knowledge. He diagnoses and treats your children correctly the First time. You will never hear him say try this and let's see how it works. He never does unnecessary testing and is very common sense. I appreciate that so much. Basically he might seem old and grumpy, but he is a good doctor, was always there for my kids 24 hrs a day. He is not cocky, or checked out."
"My daughter has been seeing Dr Champion since birth, and we love him. His staff is very friendly and great with kids. He encourages sensible, responsible treatment of medical situations and he has always listened to my concerns and allayed my fears. He has two grown children of his own, which makes me feel better about seeing him (as opposed to a young doctor fresh out of school). I've been very satisfied with his bedside manner. He is no-nonsense and doesn't waste your time with small talk. He is there to do a job and he knows that your time is valuable. He has always answered all my questions and given me adequate time to talk about my thoughts. We love him and will continue to see him until he retires."
