"My mother has been using them for several weeks after suffering from an infection that requires a wound vac. The nurse they keep sending is incapable of applying the tape that creates the suction. My mother gets a visit every other day and goes two days without care on the weekends. The wound vac requires tape and packing change every visit. The wound packing is fine, but she can’t seem to figure out how to lay tape down. I understand it’s in an awkward place and the skin moves, but they don’t pull the skin to make it flat, they tape over wrinkles, and the tape is already folding over on itself before they even touch it to the skin. It ends up looking like a wad of pack tape. I had to fix it twice one morning before a dr appointment, I being someone who isn’t trained. It doesn’t even last 12 hours after the visit. Now my mom has contacted the supervisor and asked for someone else or for this nurse to at least have some sort of additional training. The supervisor instead got snippy over the phone and said there is no one else available and blamed my mother for moving too much and that’s the reason the tape keeps failing. I don’t appreciate their staff getting defensive and then refusing to fix the problem. I understand if there’s no one else available, but I don’t understand threatening to take the wound vac off and forcing her to go to wet the dry packing ahead of time because you refuse to further train your nurse on how to apply tape. She had an infection that tunneled creating a cavity and this wound vac is there to suck the infection out. If the wound vac fails there’s a risk of the infection coming back. If you want to be mediocre at your job, you shouldn’t have chosen health care. I think a lot of health care professionals forget that it’s their job to care."
