Reviews of UnityPoint Clinic OB/GYN - Bettendorf
"I have reflected on whether to write this review for a long time. I finally decided to in attempts to warn other mothers of what they potentially may be getting into. I’m a mom of three. We moved here when pregnant with our third and delivered at this hospital with one of the OBs at this clinic. I don’t want to call her out by name so as not to embarrass her, as she was nice — but I have several concerns about their medical practices. Obviously, I’m not a doctor. But with every other hospital I delivered at there were certain standard protocols that this hospital and this clinic lacks from my experience. One of them includes using a urinary catheter if the mother elects for an epidural. This is because the mother cannot tell if her bladder is full and cannot walk to the bathroom. Having an overly full bladder can cause it to burst and make delivery incredibly difficult. I elected for an epidural when delivering at this hospital with one of the UnityPoint Clinic OBs. After the epidural, I immediately asked the nurse when would they put in the urinary catheter. She replied they don’t do that. So when the doctor walked in, I asked her don’t they need to put in a urinary catheter? She said it is not necessary. Five hours later, we had serious difficulty in getting the baby out. I was completely numb from the epidural and my bladder was certainly full from all the IV fluids. After birth, I had really bad pelvic prolapse issues and continue to have those issues today. Again, I am not a doctor, but every doctor I’ve talked to across the country said using a urinary catheter with an epidural is standard practice, especially after 5 hours of an epidural. When I went back to this OB clinic to discuss prolapse issues after birth, neither the doctor nor the nurse could identify the obvious issue. In fact, their nurse who apparently specializes in prolapse said she thought I was having these symptoms (e.g., feeling like something was falling out of me) because I was on an antibiotic, which is preposterous. I saw several specialists and they all said it would have been hard not to notice it. After seeing a specialist, I went back to the nurse at this Clinic to discuss that the specialist observed prolapse and magically this nurse could “see it now but didn’t see it before.” I felt like this nurse was incompetent and did not know what she was doing — and she is apparently the only one at this practice to focus on prolapse. I have since switched OBs to The Group. I also talked to a healthcare provider at The Group about my experience at UnityPoint Trinity Hospital. She said she used to work at that hospital several years ago and was appalled that they don’t follow protocol. I don’t take writing this review lightly. I reflected on it for over a year. But I’m very concerned that the doctors and nurses at this clinic and hospital need to update their medical practices and protocols. I went to this clinic because someone recommended them — I later found out this individual needed pelvic floor surgery. I’m not sure whether it’s related to the issues I described above, but I really wish I knew that before choosing to be a patient at this practice, which is why I’m writing this for the benefit of the next patient who is considering going here."
"I can not recommend Unity Point in Bettendorf, iowa ENOUGH. That's where i just delivered. Their OB department has a HUGE team of surgeons, and i am so thankful i opted to go there. I had problems prior to this pregnancy that required surgery, so i wanted to make sure i had access to a large knowledgeable surgical team. The doctors are phenomenal. I had an emergency c-section with life-threatening pre-eclampsia during this pregnancy. They handled it beautifully. They made me feel safe even during those trying times. Not to mention their delivery ward is a lock down unit, and they advocate for the baby to stay with the mother full-time. They WILL NOT take the baby out of the room unless medically needed. Each baby had a coded bracelet with an alarm, so they triple check the codes, and if a baby leaves their specific area, the hospital goes into lockdown. These were huge fears of mine. I had Dr. Andrews. She was an amazing ob and truly took care of me during my c-section. She made me feel like i was her only patient the entire time, and i was in the hospital for almost 5 days. Not to mention, she kept in constant contact after we got home since i was on bedrest and in pre-eclampsia protocol. I seriously can not recommend them enough. This also has nothing to do with choosing a ob, but my OR had a full staff of women. I fully respect male doctors, too, but it was amazing to see a full OR full of powerful women doing their thing!! I also should say their staff was out of this world. When i got to triage and realized i was bleeding as much as i was the nurse (betsy) that took care of me stayed with me as her primary patient our entire stay. After a while, it felt calming knowing we would have her. Having her longterm as our nurse allowed us to have a deeper trust in how she handled my care. The other nurses who helped and the night nursing staff were also all so kind. These women had to have some serious conversations with me that were terrifying, but they made me feel like they were in this with me. Betsy also looked after my significant other. She made sure he was eating, and made up a bed for him while he was looking after me. I appreciate her and each and every one of the staff whole heartedly! They are amazing!"
"Wonderful Staff, caring, attentive and thorough. Miss Patel, PA was outstanding! A provider who takes the time to listen to her patients and doesn't rush them out the door. I am in awe of the care I received today! Her medical assistant was polite as well! Highly recommend UP!"
"Every single person I interacted with in this department have all been amazing. From the front desk staff, nurses, lab and Nancy have been so kind, efficient and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them for anyone who might be nervous or hesitant on being seen. She made me feel so comfortable and walked me through all testing. Thanks to all!!"
