Reviews of South Plains Obedience Training
"Good place for dog related things, basic obedience for pets up to competitive stuff. Have a little bit of everything in dog sports."
"For anyone interested in dog training from puppies all the way up to advanced this is the best place in Lubbock. The trainers are all volunteers of the club and are an excellent source of information on everything dog! Check their website for the next sign up date and come early because classes fill up quickly that is how good they are!"
"South Plains Obedience Training Club - trains owners to teach their dogs in a positive way what it is that they want the dog to do. Building a relationship with your dog takes time and consistency, and we encourage you to give SPOTC a chance to teach you how to make your dog a super well behaved family member who you want to be with you all the time!"
"Harsh and judgmental environment - both the trainers and the individuals attending class. Brought my dogs for some booster training before moving to a more urban area and now I have a serious situation on my hands. After completing the basic obedience class for adult dogs at SPOTC, my dog is now scarily leash aggressive, to the point where I have spent $6,000 on remedial training at my new place to undo the damage done by the SPOTC. Here at SPOTC, they are not open to more humane training tools like clickers or gentle leaders. They use vinegar spray and prong collars. If you know anything about behavioral principles, my current situation makes sense. Every time my dog whined at a dog or human, she got sprayed in the mouth with vinegar or popped by her prong collar. Did she associate her whining with the punishment? HECK NO! She associated seeing the dogs and humans with punishment - to the point where she has tried to attack a dog at my new place. This is NEW- post SPOTC!! This is a dog who grew up playing with other dogs and going to daycare - very socialized. Ultimately, it was my decision to go to SPOTC, so I can only be mad at myself. Just know if you’re considering this place, your dog might just end up worse."
"Terrible school with no sense of how to train dogs on an individual basis. I’d wondered why my sweet little cairn terrier had become more timid and less playful, when I left my parents and brother for NY she was the happiest little girl and when I came back she was sad and depressed and I didn’t know why...today a year later I discovered that she had been trained using one of those metal collars with spikes on the inside to keep dogs in line by yanking it around and my mom heard her yelping...absolutely disgusted. My dog isn’t a big dog with obedience problems just needed some basic training with treats as motivation...my dog has never been the same...this place should go out of business immediately. Example of their “training instrument” below."
