Reviews of Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital
"$4500 for a respiratory infection. Was in the waiting room at the ER for 2 hours, treated for less than 2 hours. Never received a room, just in a hallway somewhere. Never received fluids. Charged $450 for a covid test. $2700 just for the visit. What a gigantic scam. I won't go back here unless I'm on my deathbed. I plan on contacting the state AG to let them know what they claim a covid test costs."
"Don't go here. Especially if you present with multiple symptoms and psychiatric concerns. They did serial blood tests and IV fluids to even remotely address the primary concern I came in with. Then I sat in the psych ER room for nearly 3 days and a total of 4 people were even remotely nice to me. Two of them were sitters (as far as inside the hospital; the psychiatric nurse practitioner and the psychiatrist were nice but seen on video) and one of them was Dr. Emily Cloessen. I was woken up at one point by a painful nasal spray and then heard the staff who were in the room leave and laugh about it (they never fully shut my door so I could hear) and they continued to talk about it throughout the day with their coworkers). One of them came back to give me tissues as I sat there crying while the mucus ran out of my nose. I refused to open my eyes because I didn't want to lose my cool on them. I never received my daily medication even though the psychiatric nurse practitioner said she noticed the hospital hadn't ordered it and would tell them about it, at 3 am when I asked for an update on my plan of care (one and only time I asked) no one came to speak with me, they told my husband there was no where for me to go but never bothered to tell me, my husband called multiple times for an update and they didn't call him until 11 PM (on day 2), they were rude to him when he tried to call and talk to me, and then this morning after no less than 3 total assessments across the days they were like hey still want to go home? And they got me out in less than 10 minutes! I know ERs aren't equipped to handle psych emergencies but, dang. It's not even what I presented for. These people made me want to die more than when I had come in. I won't go back. Ever."
"I was in the emergency waiting room for four and a half hours and I ended up leaving before being seen. It seems as though each time I visit, nurses are less than happy to do their job. There’s not a lot of compassion here. A few months back I remember coming in for some health concerns and doctors told me I was experiencing my pain/pressure and nausea due to smoking cannabis. Well, I quit smoking cannabis days after that visit and I am still experiencing these symptoms, months later. I ended up getting into hematology and the doctor I see had a good laugh when I told her Barnes Saint Peters chalked it up to my cannabis usage. I wouldn’t waste my time going back to Barnes and it would be disrespectful to recommend to anyone. If you need to visit the emergency room, I suggest going to Mercy on New Ballas in Saint Louis. That’s where I went after leaving Barnes Saint Peters a few days ago. I was seen immediately at Mercy and all their staff were wonderful."
"While the ER is slow, often because ambulances are arriving, the staff is professional, personal and caring. Spent 3 days admitted. Staff was very attentive, positive and pleasant. Received excellent care."
