"Greg was a pleasure to work with answered all of our questions and concerns. We were not educated in our situation and he spent extra time to make sure we understood the process and were taking the necessary steps to resolve the situation making the best case of a bad situation"
"This review should have been written a long time ago but wasn't. I used this lawyer to help remove a lien that was put on my parents' home by a roofing company. During this whole process, Greg wasn't taking care of the situation and was taking my money. It took a Judge to tell me not to pay Greg Van Cleave no more money as he was not handling my affairs correctly. He was a lousy and lazy lawyer! Used the money I had paid him to take his kids to fun land!!! Beware he is not a good lawyer!!!!"
"Not happy at all. Mr. Van Cleave refuses to do wire transfers or use FedEx or any other trackable type of money transfer service because he says it costs money. We even paid for it but he still did not use FedEx or Wire Transfer for our payoff for the mortgage or other payments. He mailed by regular mail the cashiers check for the payoff and our real estate agent's cashiers check. Our mortgage company and real estate agent never got their cashiers checks and since Mr. Van Cleave mailed the cashier's checks by regular mail, there was no way to track either of them. Plus they were cashier's checks therefore there is no way to check the bank to see if they have cleared because they have already been paid for when they were purchased! The money has already been spent. So now the buyer and I are screwed because the house is going into foreclosure and my real estate agent went through all the work for nothing. Plus he was the most unorganized attorney we have ever met. Anytime we had any questions, we simply said he had no idea. I would never recommend this man for anything."
"We were recommended to him by some family members. We had a tricky situation as is with intestate and encumbered properties. At first Mr. Van Cleave showed a lot of initiative, was very diligent and eager. Later on however, after his receptionist lost our file and months of weekly calls and personal visits trying to touch base, I could not get him to resume the work we needed finished. We appreciate the work done, but after a year on this project I’ll be needing to move on. -Ángel Vargas"
"I dealt with Albert Van Cleave on a deed of property that was a gift to me from a family member. My 86 yr old relative found Albert and had him prepare the deed as I was looking to sell the property that I had been gifted and we needed the deed in my name. When the deed was prepared, the title company told it was not in good order and would need to be corrected. They reached out to Albert's office on Thursday, June 16 and asked for the correction. A few days later, on Tuesday, June 21, I called Albert's office myself as we had heard nothing from them. I talked with Nicole and she said she would look into it. I heard nothing back. I called on Wednesday and Nicole still had no information for me. I called on Thursday and Nicole said that the person who was working on that file was out sick and she didn't know where it was. This is where I started to get annoyed as that corrected deed was the last thing I needed for my closing on June 27. I told Nicole that I had a hard time believing it takes a week to find this deed that had been prepared just a couple of weeks prior. Her exact words were "I don't know what to tell you." So, I asked to talk to Albert. Albert answered the phone and I told him what I needed and he asked why it needed to be corrected. I told him that the title company said the deed was missing the plat. He said it doesn't need a plat; the deed is right. I told him that I don't know if it needs the plat or not, but that is what the title company wants so I don't care who's right or wrong but I need a corrected deed. He stated, "well, I'm right but I'll do it." He then claimed the file is in storage and would need to create a new deed which is $150. He then said my elderly family member - who doesn't drive anymore - would have to come sign and have his signature notarized. I just wanted to get this done and get to closing so I said fine. I talked to the title company and they said we didn't need a new deed; all we needed is a deed correction which Albert can sign himself and not make my family member come to his office. I asked the title company to call him directly so that I didn't have to play middleman, which they agreed to do. When the title company called me back, they said Albert agreed to do the corrected deed (after they suggested it to him) so that he could be the signer and, frankly, since the mistake was his to begin with. He then told the title company that since he had already told me that he was charging $150, he was going to stand by that and charge me to fix his own mistake. Ultimately, we got the deed and the sale will close as scheduled but Albert's office was extremely inefficient and he came across as a pompous know-it-all who cares more about making $150 than he does about the client experience. TL; DR - Stay away!! Very, very poor client service and experience."
