Reviews of Capital Area Counseling
"Capital Area Counseling was very good. They provided low cost therapists when I desperately needed some but had no money and no insurance. I also met my current therapist there years ago when they were training. It’s also very easy to find the right therapist for you, as there are so many different options available in one location. Thank goodness for CAC."
"Im HIPPA trained.. this place is not HIPAA compliant and it's politics over HIPAA and your privacy . This all came from a comment I made during my counseling session ..I had to leave here because my counselor stopped me when I was talking about something political..she was on the other side of what I believed . I received a call from someone here I never talked to about my session.which means they talked about my counseling..she knew everything I talked about .Your counseling is not private they were not nice when i explained what happened . this place is good if you believe what they believe politically other than that they will stop you in your tracks.. when did counseling become political and why can't you discuss whatever you want in counseling without being stopped and censored. I will never go back to counseling after this. I trust no one now. I also had another review up here and it disappeared we'll see what happens to this one."
"Updated review shorter wait time. Please be aware under their "new computer system" they will not allow your counseling to continue, if you owe a small balance."
"I started with CAC back in early 2021 after losing my mom and struggling with various mental health issues for my entire life. Despite how overwhelmed I was, the process of applying and getting approved was very easy. I think my wait time was only about a month before they paired me with an amazing therapist who I stayed with until she eventually left the program to open her own practice. They then paired me up with a new therapist that didnt end up being a good a fit for me, but they were very understanding and passed me onto a new therapist with an easy and smooth transition. My financial situation had gotten worse at one point and my therapist was able to lower my session costs even more. CAC saved my life as there was no other way I could afford therapy. I only left the program because the first therapist I had eventually got her own practice outside of cac and I went back to her. I recommend CAC to everyone I can."
"Due to "rules" that they could not provide for me, a CAC therapist abandoned me in the hour of my greatest need. My father had just died; I was going through one of the toughest times I've ever been through. I needed help, but since Dad lived in a state other than Texas, CAC "couldn't provide therapy due to licensing issues." I looked up the rules for Texas AND the state I'm in, and learned my therapist could get a temporary 90-day license, but she was unwilling to do that. And my continued residency in TX didn't matter either. This was teletherapy ANYWAY. Our locations were separated by 500 miles to begin with. What does another 1500 miles matter? I used to think CAC was wonderful, and a great resource. Apparently it is only if you can follow all their stupid rules. Maybe they're state rules, but the net result is the same -- they do not serve the populace they pretend to protect. CAC is great if you stay in Texas, but if you ever plan on leaving the state for any reason, don't use them."
