"I saw this therapist for a few months. She is knowledgeable and skilled in EMDR although (in my case) not warm or personable. However I continued to see her until she exposed me to COVID during a session (she had already started having symptoms including losing her sense of taste but did appointments anyway) and caused me to lose work and income for 2 weeks (I'm a healthcare provider) and did not offer anything other than an apology and a text that said, "that's a bit of a suck," No refund for that session, no offer to comp or discount a future session (neither of which would have come even close to recovering what she cost me financially and otherwise, but the gesture would have been nice) After that she made a couple of insensitive statements about being so very busy with all her many clients when I was trying to book a virtual session during a time of crisis (due my job caring for patients during the pandemic), and definitely made me feel like I was just a number to her, not an individual, so I took that as an opportunity to move on. PS I'm with a great therapist now! Therapy is so important - but you should never stay with a therapist who isn't treating you respectfully and meeting your needs - or even just isn't a good "fit" You have enough issues- and your therapist should be part of the solution not causing new ones. Don't give up! SPS - In response to the therapist's response - I'm glad to hear new policies and precautions were implemented after I was exposed - however (for those reading) a waiver doesn't absolve practitioners of taking reasonable precautions to avoid exposing clients/patients - nor change the fact that what happened to me at the beginning of the pandemic was highly unprofessional and no responsibility was taken for harm caused I signed this type of waiver with my current therapist but she ALWAYS gives full informed consent if she has been exposed to COVID or other illness or is having symptoms and gives me options of doing a session with masks or rescheduling or doing virtual- it is a total different spirit of treating me with respect and full understanding of my responsibilities and role as a primary health care provider. I do this for my patients as well. And yes, due to HIPAA the therapist is limited in how she can reply in this format- it's a bit of suck. However I care passionately about mental health care for myself and for others which is why I left this review."
