"There's a reason why HSLJ has a low college readiness score compared to schools in similar ranks (according to US news) Teachers don't provide engaging lessons and that wouldn't be that big of an issue if most of the work wasn't mind numbingly easy. The only good thing i can say is that if you want a career in law enforcement this school provides good opportunities Response to Diego Duran you have shared a lot of the same complaints I have. Even saying the reason you enjoy this school is because "the work is easy compared to other magnet schools" but as you are an ambassador for the school i see where you get the sense of obligation to defend it"
"This school is phenomenal! My son has thrived with the support of the staff. They are caring and engaged in his academics and work with each student to develop character! Mr. Prados, his assistant principal, is so engaged and encouraging. Mrs. Nolley is a God send and has provided so much extra help. Mrs. Fenka has stepped in and supported him even though that isn't her job. The JROTC major has invested in my son both physically and emotionally. The building is beautiful. I cannot say enough good things about this school. My son's life is impacted in such a positive way due to the staffs willingness to support him mentally, physically and emotionally!"
"Great school with great opportunities. Responding to "Aaron Andrio", the lessons are engaging, from personal experience you are simply always wandering off and not engaged yourself. You can definitely learn new material and there are some great teachers and opportunities provided."
"Prospective parent point of view The magnet Coordinator here is wonderful. She was attentive responsive and knowledgeable. The school website is so easy to follow. It is the most informative hisd school website for prospective students I have ever been to. It tells you all of the classes and activities. It has a way of contacting the Magnet Coordinator that is simple and easy to use. A+"
"Very few good teachers are left here. Most of them don't care. The work they give students doesn't help them learn. They just give school work and don't teach. Except for very few. Law enforcement related classes and activities are good though. They are fun, interactive, and actually teach students things. The school finessed students in many ways. The school doesn't let students go outside for lunch so students are forced to eat the nasty school lunch unless they have money to buy from the snack line. Iced coffee is basically 75% ice and 25% coffee. Bus schedules suck. Uniforms standards are so unnecessary. They don't even have a baseball or football team. Basketball team only plays 1 game in the whole school year and it is during Christmas. Soccer team experience is fun but the team isn't good. Senior activities aren't as great as other high schools. They asked my class (Class of 2020) to raise $20,000 for prom even though prom does not cost that much money for the size of the senior class. The senior class every year is mostly 100 students total. I did not chip in anything because I was not going to get finessed. Glad I went to another high school for my senior year. Overall, high school experience is alright but boring. Go to another high school unless you want to have a boring high school experience. It is not necessary to go here if you want to have a career in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice."
