Reviews of Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston
"Absolutely the worst campus tour my daughter and I have ever experienced. Not only was she not friendly but she also lacked knowledge about the programs, professors, and any academic questions we had. We were unable to view any rooms because as she stated “ Class is in session.” I asked when would be a better time to return so we could get the full experience and she stated that only groups of 30+ get more of the full experience. I was left baffled for a minute; deep breathes then I asked her what does that mean and she replied if we came with a school to tour the campus. Shocked and honestly left speechless she continued to talk about the donors and then walked us outside to see the water tower. Zero information on any academics. So we toured the donor wall, walked a hallway and was shown the water tower. I told my daughter she deserves much better than this, as she was very excited to apply to this school."
"The registrar's office has messed up my applications at least twice. I had to call multiple times to verify that the correct documents were on file with the current application. They bounce you around to different people within the registrar office and often do not return voice message or emails. I had to resend a transcript a couple of times for an undergraduate program application. I had to get my reference people to resend the recommendation form for graduate program applications. One time, I had to tell them the date and name of a reference person so they could hunt through their emails and they discovered it after previously saying they had not received it. I found out my resume for the current application was the one from a few years ago rather than the one I sent in the current month for the current application or even last year's resume for last year's application! If I had not called multiple times and emailed multiple times, a resume from multiple years ago from undergraduate years would have been used for the 2022 graduate program application and it was likely used in a 2021 graduate program application unbeknownst to me at the time. Here is where the staff responsibility comes in. Any competent reasonable person would see that the stuff listed on the resume was from multiple years ago and that the file name indicated multiple years ago, and then that competent reasonable person would search the registrar email inbox for an updated document with file name and content showing the current year. Instead, it seems that the application, which the applicant has to call to find out what is being used, is merely checked off with old documents by the staff. By calling, I found to my shock that the very old resume was being used and also, I surmise, had been used for the previous year. In addition, the application portal is opaque and outdated. It doesn't allow the applicant to see which items are “attached” or “assigned” to the required checklist, and it doesn't allow documents to be uploaded directly. Most documents must be emailed to the registrar. This means that some applicant resume from many years ago for example might be used by the registrar staff to meet the requirement of “resume” for the To Do checklist. The item on the To Do list just disappears but the applicant has no way of knowing what document file was used. How many applicants were disqualified or not updated each year due to the application portal problems and, more egregiously, due to the registrar's office level of dysfunction? The staff required to carry out certain processing are not getting the job done. They are failing to monitor their email boxes enough for the supporting documents, staff pass off calls to others as if it is the responsibility of someone else to take care of “that issue”, and the only person who seems to care about the candidate's application is the candidate. The candidates/applicants are spinning their wheels taking prereq classes and completing certifications and studying for entrance exams and scrounging up references and putting together applications which merely get tossed out or not looked at properly because they are not processed accurately. The schools at UT Health are suffering because they unjustly disqualify candidates for applications that look incomplete or not current. Applicants pay an application fee and are entitled to an accurate processing of their application. This is not happening and is infuriating because the applicant is at the mercy of the gate keeper registrar office to enter into their desired school or program at UT. The application could decide the next several years of an applicant's life and the applicant took great effort to get to the point to submit the application. I give their office 1 star out of 5 for effectiveness and reliability. Someone at UT should take notice and improve that department, as it affects all students trying to enter the school, especially the post graduate programs."
"My son and daughter in law received the BEST medical-science training in the discipline of nursing health a prospective student could get. Today, they are amazing, highly qualified, and most compassionate hospital RNs. Thank you Cizik School!"
"I was lucky enough to be accepted into this wonderful and challenging nursing program in 2019 and graduated in 2020. I had experience with my time at Dental School under my belt and the academic challenges of this accelerated program were just as demanding if not more due to the accelerated nature of the program. I've lost touch with a lot of the friends I made there along with the faculty but I look forward to reconnecting with them. I cannot recommend this RN, BSN program enough."
"My daughter has applied 4 times. Passed everything with good scores. She even has hospital experience and doctors references. Still no explanations why she keeps getting denied. She asks and no one ever responds. Coming from a family of nurses. Her mom BSN of 18 yrs, her two cousins graduates from here. She scored better than them. She’s an exemplary employee at her hospital and has numerous doctors reference letters. And still can’t get an answer as to why you don’t get accepted. How are you supposed to know what you need? If you’re missing something? She has everything. Truly unacceptable from such a school that’s supposed to have high accreditations."
