"It's an ok school. Most of the teachers are encouraging and helpful. They know how to help you prepare for high school. One or two teachers are a bit racist, so be careful of that. Shout-out to Mrs. Woodard, Dr. Fong, Mrs. Fujiwara, as well as Ms. Hsu for guiding me through my middle school years! PS, C House is the best ;)"
"Using my knowledge from my 3 years in Pin Oak, I can securely say that I've had many great teachers. Some were harsh, but they knew how to teach anyways. One problem I faced was harassment from students. It was not bullying because I wasn't picked on by the same student, different students have been mean to me. Being a teenager is when you feel the most sensitive to insecurity, so POMS needs to take care of this. Also after graduating, I realized that some of my peers were depressed(I did not know then because people with depression tend to hide it), even suicidal. We never had an intervention on mental health. I recommend to have a Advocacy based on this. I have one more concern, Ms Butler gets the job done, but she is way too rude. I'm saying that Pin Oak should fire her, but she needs to understand that she's dealing with pubescent kids, kids that are going to changes. They are in a fragile state, and I honestly had a fear of her. Everyone feared her, it was "big talk" to say you had her gym class. You should not be afraid of a gym teacher or any teachers! I hope someone working at Pin Oak reads this."
"Great school. Pay attention in class and you will do great. The teachers and staff are very supportive and the hallways and classrooms are always clean. There can be a lot of homework, but as long as you don't procrastinate too much you'll be fine."
"I'm going to give my in depth experience and review of Pin Oak for leaving for high school at the end of the year. I'm in my last year at Pin Oak as a C house student, and I've had such a great time here. The students are diverse and generally want to do well in class, the atmosphere is great, and I've made many close friends here. The teachers are also good at their job(especially the 7C cluster), and are supportive and rational. Of course, there are a few teachers I didn't like but that goes for every school. The workload isn't overwhelming, although there was a big difference compared to elementary school. If a student does stay up late to finish their homework, it's probably because of poor time management(that I admit I'm guilty of), however you do get a lot of homework in 8th grade. The sports and arts programs are wonderful, and I've met some of my favorite teachers in the art department! Going back to the homework issue, I have stayed up until 2 am at times trying to finish homework but if your child doesn't push away their work until the last minute, they'll be fine and that won't happen. The grades the students have typically stay in the upper 80s-90s, and many students have grades in the upper 90s and even 100s. Because of this, you may think that teachers just give really easy work and don't teach us anything, but it's actually because the teachers are great and really care for a student's grades and how they're doing in school. They want to make sure their students are learning and not just sitting in class doing nothing. All in all, Pin Oak is a really good school with a great student body, teachers, and curriculum, and I highly recommend new students to come here, especially house C!"
"My husband and I returned to New York today on a plane filled with Pin Oak Middle School Choir and Band members and I wanted to congratulate the students and staff traveling with them for their exemplary behavior and polite manners! We were serenaded with a beautiful "Thank You" song before we landed. You should be very, very proud of the ambassadors of your school! I hope that the students have a wonderful experience in New York City! Nancy and Price Manford"
