"I have extreme anxiety about flying, not so much the flight part but that's when my claustrophobia kicks in. For years I just load up on Xanax, but that's not the most healthy approach. A friend told me that Liz could help. I was (highly) skeptical that "breathing" would do anything since I breathe all day long without thinking, so how is that anything special? What I didn't understand, and do now, is that we breathe unconsciously, but unlike all other animals, we can consciously control our breath. We can breathe fast to the point of hyperventilation, hold our breath, breathe through the chest, through the stomach, deep breaths, shallow breaths, you name it. But it's even more nuanced than that. With a skilled a teacher like Liz, I understood that there is a method to making breathwork force the body to unlock unconscious thoughts and memories. I didn't believe it either! It truly astounded me. Thoughts and realizations came up, and Liz prompted me to identify them for what they were. I discovered that breathwork relaxes muscles I didn't even know I had, much less were holding stress. It was an experience like none other. Afterwards I felt calm, alert, and empty. OK, empty sounds bad, but it's not... I needed not to feel EVERYTHING, and didn't know that even when "relaxed" I was still holding tension. Despite all this, I knew that deep inside that I was holding back, because I was a little scared of the whole thing. Breathing like that is not natural; it is confusing; I didn't trust what I was feeling. But afterwards I knew better. So I saw her again. That time I knew what I was in for, and Liz turned it up a notch, and I discovered things that I could not believe were inside. I cried, I screamed, I laughed, I writhed, I shook. It was amazing. Make no mistake: this didn't "cure" me of my flight anxiety, but it made me understand and appreciate where it is coming from. I don't need Xanax anymore. Instead I breathe while everyone is boarding, and by the time we're in the air I have a calmness that I could not imagine before seeing Liz. See Liz for your anxiety and depression and neuroses. She will change your life."
