"Alvin school district having trouble with keeping up with the growth and adding qualified teachers"
"Unfortunately, several children have serious, disruptive issues. I've witnessed tantrums, high pitched ear piercing shrieking and floor stomping in students up to 5th grade! Students standing on desks, leaning and falling off chairs, ill prepared for class, running and climbing about and teachers having to become stern to gain cooperation. They shouldn't have to deal with such behavior that keeps good students getting as much attention. This tantrum type of behavior occurred with a fourth grade student. The principal would not handle it. While I was there a student threw himself on the floor, pounding and kicking it, wildly flailing his arms and hit me! He was instead placed in another classroom where that teacher had to stop her lessons to accommodate this student. He knew this would happen and he did it on purpose to leave the room and said so. He was able to play in the other room to relax and settle down. Another student was talking excessively and physically touching and bothering other students, standing on tables. He was warned that he would be sent to the office for the principal to handle. He said he didn't care because he knew nothing would happen to him. Less than ten minutes later he came back, smug and said "See? I told you nothing would happen to me" (he was quite pleased at showing off). One of the office personnel stated that no other difficult student was to be to sent to the office. The principal didn't want to deal with it and no one else could. Instead, the child was put in another teacher's classroom to "cool off and rest". Many of the students purposefully demonstrate extremely disruptive behavior to get out of doing class work and play in another room. This isn't fair to teachers that a problem child is placed in their classroom as that class will be disrupted while the student is calmed. Shouldn't the upper tier of school educators handle serious behavioral issues so that teachers can focus on teaching? Other schools have principals that walk the halls, roaming around the lunch room talking and saying encouraging things to students, they peek into the classroom to see if everything is going well .They are involved with their school community. In general students do not want to go to the office. At this school, students know there is no consequence. I've talked to teachers who feel trapped in that student behavior issues aren't handled by the appropriate level of educator. They can't complain for fear of being fired and having negative information put into their file and would be given a bad reference. They still work hard, trying to reach the difficult students. These teachers are truly strong, dedicated and resilient. Other AISD schools are not like this this at all. The best school in everything from positive reinforcement, better student cooperation and the staff and faculty appear happier looking is Red Duke Elementary it's students are mostly from the South Fork subdivisions. The school moves along like a well oiled machine with an infectious good feeling from encountering the office staff to the faculty, cafeteria and janitorial employees. Well run, good atmosphere that makes you smile with happier looking people. The teachers are very innovative in techniques to encourage cooperation and there is administrative support. Worth checking if Duke school is the one your home is within the boundaries. Great place! Be sure you're not in the Savannah Lakes Elementary."
"Three of my girls go here, they love it. Nice teachers, and the people at the front desk are delightful."
"I'm writing this review because of the crosswalk lady, whom I fine to be extremely rude, and unprofessional. My son is a red walker, and I happened to be crossing the street from Kiddie Academy over to Savannah Parkway. At the corner I saw my son coming towards me, so I grabbed him, which eliminates us from walking over 3 more streets. She immediately yells at me with the nastiest voice, "You know you're not suppose to pick him up right there! You need to pick him up over here!", rolling her eyes at me. I understand for the safety of my child he needs to cross over to the street before I get him. But that day, I happened to be crossing, and met with him in the corner. I wouldn't be writing this review, but I'm awfully disgusted with her improper behavior towards a parent. Sadly, I'm not the only person she has provoke. I've seen her squawking at other parents and its uncalled for. I hope Lakes of Savannah can make this right, because I really want to love this school district."
"My daughter reported being made fun of and relentlessly bullied by her peers in Sept 2016. I was not contacted till over a month after her daily reports to the councilor Mrs.Jones..Whom told me Casey had proof (notes found at school) being passed around school..and an investigation was talking place. Three days later I was contacted by Mrs.Jones whom with the help of Mrs.Mars(ast.principal) had determined during the investigation that my daughter had in fact been experiencing bullying. The investigation met all 5 criterias and she apologized. When I asked for the results of the investigation in writing I was denied. Later that week after many correspondence with the administration as well as recording the conversations , I was sent a letter from Mr.Bagby stating that she had not been bullied. And a cover up was put in place to protect AISD..not my child. She endured this bullying much longer than necessary and was patient with the process. They punished the students involved as It was a case of bullying and even removed said students to other classes, as that's bullying procedures. I also have a special needs child that attended last yr..they never followed the ARD..and the medical needs of my child per her Dr request as well as mine. Eventually they lost track of her for at least 45 mins..pushing independence and using the buddy system (A CHILD RESPONSIBLE FOR MY CHILD)to make sure my child got to her destination. This school and district are piss poor...As my 8th grader had to be removed and transferred for his safety from RPJH this yr as well. His shoes were stolen the 4th day of school and he cooperated with the criminal investigation and was labeled a snitch by his peers. This kind of delinquent activity is rampid and ignored by Administration. I'm disgusted with the adults and staff of AISD. We are moving to get them out of this district and in a more health learning environment. I have started the grievance process and I'm sorry to say it only gets worse the higher up you go. #lawyerdup"
