The Gentlemen’s Refinery Barber Shop 112 Penny Avenue, East Dundee, IL 60118

"Just got done with a haircut here. I’m sure others have had great experiences, but mine was far from it. First - the barber shop has 5+ chairs, but only one gentleman was cutting hair. Very suspect. I’ll admit - I was 5 minutes late for my appointment, but my barber assured me he could “push out his next appointment a bit” but then proceeded to clearly stress about time halfway through the cut, rushing, panting, and being needlessly rough. I’ll admit I had quite a bit of hair coming in after not having had a haircut for 6+ months. I told my barber this on the phone, and it was evident as soon as I walked in. Point of feedback for when the barber reads this - REFUSE THE SERVICE IF YOU’RE NOT CONFIDENT YOU CAN EXECUTE AT YOUR BEST. I showed him what I was looking for and was told he was going to cut drastically and take “50% or more of my hair away.” Perfectly fine by me! It’s hot out and I want to be able to manage this mane. Instead, he rushed and lopped off 80% of my hair, lopping off the section of my bangs I was hoping to keep (like was shown in the hair style example picture at the beginning of the appointment.) I’ve never been closer to refusing to pay for a haircut, and am honestly disappointed in myself that I did. But he did spend his time cutting my hair, so that’s worth… something. I guess. Two stars because he did his best given the circumstances. That’s all anyone can do. But this best is far from satisfactory and I won’t be retuning. I hope my review is a cautionary tale to advocate for yourself, and refuse payment if you’re unsatisfied. I was hoping for a consistent barber - guess I’ll continue looking."

"I've been coming to Pat for awhile. Best fade in the Dundee area. He always hooks me up with the best cut. I can choose to go to any barber but I travel from Crystal Lake to Dundee because I can't find a better barber. I literally wont let anyone else cut my hair. I highly recommend. I'm very specific with my cut, and Pat comes through every time."

"Extremely rushed to the point that it hurt, especially when he shaved my neck. He had my haircut done in less than 15 minutes to fit another appointment he stuffed in after. Then he cut my hair to half the length of what I asked for and told me that's exactly what I'd asked for. Then I had to pay $40 because he only takes cash and his atm only gives $20s. He should have mentioned that beforehand. Can't believe the horrible service I got here Edit: The barber is also the "owner" responding to this review. I wish he was more professional or apologetic. I too was surprised after all the great reviews here. Just be careful if you pick this place and have medium to long hair. He can probably cut short hair ok."

"Stopped in today for my first haircut in months. Great atmosphere and attention to detail. Patrick does an awesome job listening to you, understanding what you want, then telling you how he's going to do it. The attention to detail he puts into his work is amazing and the atmosphere of the barbershop is very nice and relaxed. I heavily recommend this place."

"My son and myself have been coming here twice a month for the past year. We are never disappointed with the service. Patrick does an incredible job on the haircuts and beard trimming. I have yet to experience anyone better. My kid and myself love the old school chairs and the vibe the place throws off. Highly recommend this place."
