"I highly recommend Derek for anyone in the area looking to learn guitar. I started lessons not knowing a single thing about guitar and have progressed so much in just a few months. He doesn't use music lesson books but instead teaches you techniques through familiar songs and useful exercises that are engaging and fun to practice. If you have an idea of what you want to achieve, he will make sure you learn the foundations to get you there. He'll even touch base on music theory so you have a deeper understanding of the art form as a whole. Derek is very engaging and passionate about guitar as not just a hobby or skill but a powerful form of creative expression. I've really enjoyed learning from him!"
"Derek not only has a command of the instrument and theories around it, but a gift for teaching that is not common, And a love and passion for guitar. His enthusiasm is infectious, and I hope to spend more time learning from him soon! Particularly fun is his skill at digging into the theory behind all our favorite music. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone deeply analyze Guns N’ Roses before, and it’s quite an experience . If you want to learn the guitar, this is your guy"
"True Professional Derek’s depth of knowledge is amazing. I started about 2 years ago playing 3 chord strums. Today I’m playing the acoustic version of I Might Be Wrong by Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. Something I never thought I’d play. Cheers brother."
"I never write reviews. Ever. But I had to in this instance. I’m 26 and always wanted to learn guitar. Derek is the best teacher of any subject I have ever had. It is so unbelievable the things that I have learned in the last 8 months. I came into this not knowing exactly how good at guitar I could get. Derek has made seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so easy. He sets clear goals with homework and expectations on when progress should be made by but it never felt like homework. It was always a joy to practice because he made it so fun. Any type of music I wanted to learn, Derek would work it into a lesson. I didn’t know what to expect but even after my first lesson I know this would be special. I get so excited every time I have lessons because Derek makes learning guitar that special. I would recommend him 10 times over. Best teacher EVER. Thank you Derek."
"I’ve been taking lessons from Derek for two and a half years. When I started, I didn’t know the difference in the high E and the low E. He’s very patient and works at my speed. Now, we learn a new song just about every week. He didn’t force me to learn music theory. But, when I was ready to start understanding it better, he was the expert. I highly recommend Derek for guitar lessons. He teaches you to play the songs the way the artist plays them."
