Reviews of Founders Classical Academy of Flower Mound
"I do not recommend this school to anyone. I went in expecting good curriculum and kind people, but my experience was far from that. The staff are often invalidating and unprofessional. There is a small handful of teachers that are respectful and validating. To name such teachers specifically, I would have to say Mr. Stevenson, a science teacher at the school, is one of the only people who gave me hope regarding the school. I have also heard from almost every student I know that they agree with this statement. Parents who love the school are often the parents that disregard their child and only care about grades. They put way too much pressure on the students and are not cooperative. They do not let their students go to the bathroom when they need to, and they do not allow students to have every day normal conversations. The dress code is my main concern. Students have no freedom or individuality. They are all expected to look the same, except for the handful of favorites who wear what they want. The school often picks favorites, and only allows the “smart” students to have freedom which is entirely unfair to the students who struggle with their school work. The school does not pay attention to very important issues such as rumors, bullying, etc. However, they do focus heavily on the way their students dress. Students are also not allowed to have their phones out even after school. Many students need their phones to text parents etc, and are not able to do this because the school seems to not understand the fact that phones aren’t only used for games. My last issue I care to talk about here is the lack of student independence. This school preaches to the students that we need to know the curriculum for the “real world,” but then they email our parents every time they have an issue with a student when they should talk to the student personally. Why preach independence to your student if you expect their parents to solve all their problems for them that they are capable of solving themself?"
"Pretty school, awful environment, too small to accommodate the number of students. Lower school administration needs to be replaced with people who will be more proactive with issues. They can be quite rude and unwilling to accept responsibility for what occurs on campus. There have been problems with bullies which have been brought to their attention and nothing has been done, despite what they say. The loads of books the students have to carry home daily is excessive. The pickup process was pretty decent last year & has been changed more than once this year for some reason and is not as efficient. Part of the problem are that the parents in line are too preoccupied with their cell phones to pay attention. There is an odd thing with blocking all the parking spots with cones which leaves no spaces if you need to park and go into the school. Sixth graders were moved into the lower building this year which has caused more overcrowding. Graded papers? You might get them 2 months later if you're lucky."
"It is a horrible school. If you really love your child, I would totally not send them to this school. It just stresses them out. Your child will literally have a test ever single day. They just will not have time to relax. Only time they will get is breaks and weekends. They will also literally have 4+ hours of homework. This is ridiculous for elementary students and all other grade levels. Also the drop-off system and pick-up system is even more ridiculous than the homework they give. I could just keep on complaining. But, please take my advice and send your child to a public school, where everything is decent."
"I'll start off by saying that this school is great for elementary students because it provides some sort of academic understanding and discipline. But when it comes to middle and high school, I've had a quite bad experience at this specific school. This school does not seem to help develop basic social skills within students at all, as group projects and student to student collaboration is not allowed within all activities. The amount of homework is unrealistic and unfair, as coming home from school shouldn't mean looking forward to about 3-4 hours of homework in one day. Coming from a public school, the homework amount was more spread out and reasonable. If your kid relies on technology to study and learn, then obviously this wouldn't be the right place for you either. The one advantage I have seen in this school is the ability for teachers to be more one on one with the student. The administration is still a work in progress and I wouldn't call it great, but I am sure that in the years to come the school will become more refined in general. It is not a comfortable experience as a high school student in general, and I would suggest going to a more developed school first to allow your kid to have the best high school experience."
