"This school may be good for some but not for everyone. Very young people working staff unprofessionals. Lot of stuff going on..On my experience mi kid is being bullied by assistant principal and teacher. Don't help solve problems my kid is an A-B student but a lot of bulling sadly from staff that should care for students, not putting their self esteem down or shutting dreams.. will be moving forward to better places. For parents with kids in this school communicate with them be their voices stand up for their dreams. Lots going on.!!"
"Great school! As an alumni, I was provided the important resources needed to begin my college experience. The staff can be very supportive, however, there have been occasions in which teachers have been "lacking," but they try their best to do what they can for their students."
"As a former graduate from HSA El Paso, reading the reviews on this page made me very disappointed. It saddens me to see how students and even parents talk of this school. I was a student at HSA El Paso for 7 years and my experience was amazing. Teachers have a lot of patience and push you to learn more and challenge yourself. There is no such thing as "dumber classes" just like at public school, students are given the choice to choose their classes, either advanced, AP, or regular classes. They also have great opportunities and extra curricular activities. They have robotics which almost every year places for the international competition, science olympiad which is a great learning experience, after school clubs, a soccer team, volleyball team, and a basketball teams. The school also offers fun yet informative college trips for students. For the people complaining about the food, this year students are given the choice of 2 meal options. I have tried them myself and they are good, not sure why students are complaining. I will say that HSA has strict rules, however the rules are what make the school's environment safe and better than a public school's. Is it too hard for students to follow a dress code? Really don't know why students complain about not being able to wear hoodies. They're going to school to learn, not to a fashion show. I am a current Nursing Student at UTEP, and I can sincerely say that HSA and its vigorous curriculum really did prepare me for college. Being in college classes with students that attended public school, I saw them struggle through topics and assignments that I completed easily. The classes at HSA will challenge you/your child academically, that is the process of getting you/your child college, life, and career ready. If you or your child are not willing to be challenged and to put in extra effort, don't come here and write a bad review saying the school is too tough. There is always someone willing to help, it is up to the student to be willing to put in the effort and want to succeed. HSA has a great community of teachers, students, parents, and staff. HSA is a great school and has a very friendly environment and I really hope that if you are deciding on whether or not to enroll your child, or you are a student that wants to or is considering enrolling, to please check out our school and give us a chance to show you how great it is and all the academic opportunities it offers and don't let yourself be persuaded by the negative comments. You will not regret joining the Harmony family."
"As a former parent of a Harmony graduate, it saddens me to read through these reviews. I had two of my children attend other area public schools, and their preparedness for college was subpar compared to the quality help my youngest child received while at the school. You will not find another school with the same amount of excellence standards, and the ranking of the school by US News & World Report speaks in and of itself."
"Original post (2015): My sister currently attends HSA El Paso and having been a student at a public school in the same area, I am very impressed with their curriculum. They mostly focus on math and science which I think is great because there is a need for our educational system to do just that. It is a charter school, which means that it is partially funded by the state. That also means that they can be underfunded and parents have to significantly contribute supplies and there is a lot of fundraising. One of the things I don't like is that it is a very demanding school compared to public schools in the area. They do not teach any specific religion. HSA El Paso was recently ranked one of the best schools in the nation. All in all, this is one of the best education options for K-12 in the El Paso area. Update (May 2019): Sadly I have to update my review of this school and knock off a star. It’s very disappointing that for such a small school, kids don’t get the individual attention they deserve. There is a lack of organization and lack of communication. There’s also a disregard for any student who doesn’t “shine.” My sister was an average student here and was completely disregarded when she deserved any praise. Staff ignored issues she had with a particular teacher who bullied her one year. College counselor only had 60 students to advise and completely dropped the ball. He sent my sister’s college application mid-year reports late. Not to mention he did nothing to help my sister with her college applications unless I contacted him. Nevertheless, she was accepted into a top 100 liberal arts school. My sister also went to this school since it opened, from K-12, and at her graduation this wasn’t acknowledged even though they recognized 3 other students who also attended the school since Kindergarten. They’re incredibly strict and hard on students. Parents have to be very careful to voice their concerns, otherwise no one will pay attention. You’ll always have to be on top of teachers/admin staff to make sure your child isn’t ignored despite the small size of the school. There are public schools in El Paso just as good as this school. It’s only worth it sending your child here if the public school near you is no good. I realize it’s a nationally ranked school, but there is incredible room for improvement, and they can start by caring for all students who attend. National rank is meaningless when it comes to quality of education, especially if a school ignores its students."
