"If you have a child with a learning difference, do not send them to this school. We have had an unfortunate time here. Three principals in three years. The assistant principal is woefully uninformed on both HISD policy and no child left behind. They failed to recognize my oldest child's ADHD for a full year after her diagnosis was turned into them. Her teacher removed her from the classroom on a regular basis because she had poor training in ADHD behavior modifications. We know this because our daughter had 0 issues with her teacher the following year. She did not get a full year of first grade education because her teacher has no idea what no child left behind actually entails. This same teacher spent the whole year with our second daughter never noticing she has dyslexia. They tried to fail our dyslexic daughter based solely on a reading test that was not administered to dyslexia testing standards. We have had to hire legal help to deal with the school and pay over $2000.00 in testing that the school should have done for free. We have had money go missing for an after school karate program that was suddenly "found" after three weeks, in fall 2015. They also misplaced both first grade and third grade money for field trips this school year. They stopped sending home official permission slips for trips then "forgot" to get the buses for field trips in both first and third grade, canceling the trips the day of. We have been at this school for three years; the information used to enroll our children has not changed, yet our addresses and other information are incorrect and have never been corrected no matter how many times we fill out the form. The school refuses to communicate with us in the manner that we are most comfortable (please learn to use email). We even had our daughter's first grade teacher force us to download an awful app that we do not want on our phone for communications while refusing to email or call. We have had so many important documents go missing because they do not organize the information sent home. Literally, a form about your child failing a test will be in the middle of a stack of 10 papers from the YMCA on water safety. Like many schools, they have you sign a form about projects that are due. Unfortunately, they collect these forms and send home project packets that are MISSING THE DUE DATE. Literally the most important bit of information is left out (looking at you science fair project). They call while never using the child's name (A HUGE issue when you have two daughters there, WE NEED TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!) and then do not leave contact numbers. Our third grader was forced to watch religious movies in class. The teachers of this school are in desperate need of training in dealing with people of differing backgrounds, religions and cultures. Also, they allow teachers to have major projects due on Mondays after major holidays like spring break. Most districts do not allow this, recognizing that holidays are for families and special times. They do all weekend functions on the third weekend of the month making it impossible for all children of divorce on the Texas standard possessions order of child custody from attending. This school is not functioning and is letting their students down. Trust has been broken and we do not feel this school is capable of educating our children. I wish things had been different because the amount of stress this school has reaped on our family is completely unnecessary. If you think this is a long list of complaints, imagine what your experience will be."
"Upset how teachers harrass my child just because he has trouble learning. Principal and teachers wanted to have him tested to see if he had a learning disability. The specialists that does the testing said she will not test him as she does not think he needs to be tested. I'm like wow you guys just don't want your school to look bad becuase he has a hard time learning you just want to category him as a child with learning disability and make it seem that all there student are smart and on good track. Principal Melissa and other teachers insisted that I get him tested but I have to request it since the testing specialist refuse to do it, I said I don't want to do that to my son at this time. After that my son has been harassed by his teacher Mr. Garza and refusing tutorials for my son that is so unfair what they are doing to my son just because they can't lable him has a learning disability . I will take this to the school board!"
"My loved one goes to this school and she is treated respectfully and has a great teacher. She learns a lot and she brings back a folder full of summaries of behavior and other activities. I don't quit understand the bad reviews and they sound like very terrible situations, but for the past 3 years, we haven't had any issues. Thanks for doing an awesome Red Elementary!"
"I don't know the circumstances that led to the bad reviews, but not everyone will be 100% satisfied with everything. Also, no school is perfect. I chose to place my child here because I want her to be in a good magnet STEM school. I didn't want her to go to the school she was zoned to because most people know that HISD is riddled with problems. I feel that my daughter is learning and an outstanding rate at this school. I don't even want to imagine what she would deal with if she went to the school she was zoned to. I have experienced a few bumps along the way with my child, but overall, I don't regret sending her to this school."
"Shut this school down! My daughter had a knife pulled on her by another student and nothing was done about it. She's in trouble for not going to school but it's real hard to go to school when your in fear for your life! Wake up management before a kid gets hurt or killed. Better yet Houston let's petition to shut this school down."
