"I recently reached out to JessOnThePress because I am looking for a stylist to do my silk press for my wedding. I reached out to learn whether Jess might be a fit for what I was looking for and to learn how Jess would handle my hair throughout the wedding process and to ask logistical questions concerning doing hair for a wedding. Understanding that weddings are a one time high pressure event, I have several questions for whoever I may work with. Relying on someone's word or "reputation on instagram" is not enough for wedding hair, esp given I have 4b/4c hair and want to ensure my hair is handled properly before I let someone do my hair for my biggest day of the year. There were several red flags in my coordination with Jess. She was a cold and passive aggressive communicator, and continually assumed the worst of me. The first red flag is that Jess said I would have to pay $32 for a 20 min consultation to ask the questions I have about her doing hair for my wedding. This was very strange to me. I explained to her that all consultations I've had with potential wedding vendors have been longer than 20 minutes, and that I have very thorough questions to see if someone is a fit for a wedding. It seemed to me that Jess uses her usual consultation to answer wedding inquiries which poses a problem because these are two different types of services. I have not run across a single other vendor who has asked me to pay money just to see if they might be a fit for my wedding. When I expressed to Jess that the type of consultation she was discussing didn’t seem to fit my needs, I asked her if she offered a free call for questions such as, “Are you available on my wedding date,” and “Would I get my hair done at your salon or at my location." These are basic things a bride needs to know when seeking services. As I explained to Jess, I had no problem paying for a consultation if it would address everything I was looking for. Jess made assumptions about me and took my thoroughness and transparency as an insult. Jess showed poor listening skills, inflexibility, and a lack of professionalism. She argues with you when you are asking simple questions. She will try to hold your own words against you instead of listening to get at the root of what you are saying. I would strongly encourage going elsewhere to find a bridal stylist who will treat you with care throughout the whole process. I have already had another stylist offer to have a phone call with me. She did not demand that I pay. It was easy breezy and no unnecessary arguing. I came to this other stylist with the exact same questions as I did to Jess."
