"My wife and I had the honor and pleasure to be a part of Sheepdog Response's Couples Protector Course around Valentines Day. If you're on the fence on whether you should take this course or not, do it! Stop thinking about it and jump in! My wife and I were very new to almost everything taught, so we were a little nervous on what to expect. From the moment we got there, every instructor was incredibly helpful, polite, and super knowledgable. Matt Smith was the instructor who taught most of what we learned for situational awareness and education at the range. He is freaking hilarious. I think he should consider some stand-up as a side hustle. He definitely keeps you engaged! Mixing in humor was great because there was A LOT to cover! SDR definitely needs a poster of Matt's face blown up, with all his quotes/isms written on it. Too many too remember, but for sure a must. Justin Flood was the instructor who taught most of the gym portion, on the mats, related to all things hand-to-hand self-defense. He was super informative, patient, and also looks like he came straight out of the movie 300 aka Gerard Butler's brother. Torrey Prather also played a huge part in every aspect of the weekend training. He too was super patient, kind, and helpful! His gum-chewing prowess/shooting at the same time is unmatched. I was also personally helped by Jay and Brendan on the mats and at the range. They were so great and there to help every step of the way!! Also, a special shoutout to Casey and Frances for helping my wife feel more comfortable on the mats. My wife was super nervous for this part and you both definitely made her feel comfortable enough to keep going! Well, not 100% comfortable, because you know, you're trying to push everyone to their limits! Lastly, thank you/no thank you to Pat for smashing me the last day/last round and for slapping my face gently/not-so-gently telling me to get out of every awful position you had me in. I'm sure it was super fun for you, haha! I picked Pat because as a black belt in BJJ I thought he would go easy on me. Yeah no. I've wanted to go to Sheepdog for over 2 years now and it was incredible to finally go with my wife! It has now laid the foundation for us to improve in every area we can. My wife is now super interested in getting into! We feel so much more empowered and excited to keep learning! I've been a HUGE fan of Tim for years and it was pretty special for me to be a part of something he's invested his heart/life/soul into. Well done to all of the SDR team!! P.S.-Anyone going to SDR training, have your epsom salt bath ready to go after training. You will be sore. ;-)"
"Thoroughly enjoyed and learned USCCA sponsored "Should I shoot" presentation by Troy."
"I just turned 55 and part of my birthday I took the protector 1 course outside of Seattle WA. I was shocked at what I learned. It was hard, scary, exciting, fun etc. I simply could not get get enough. All 4 instructors were simply amazing. Chantry Cooker was awesome during the firearms training and I loved the professionalism of the instruction that I can now build from. Stephen Martin is simply the best. I loved his take on the course and how he broke down the gym information into a way that allowed someone like me who has zero martial arts experience ready to signup in one of my local gyms because I realize how vulnerable I am and how much I don’t know by learning the basics through this course. One of the last things Steve taught us along with Chantry was situational awareness. Steve told us as we go through-out our day like at an airport, to watch for potential threats, to not just look at their eyes but look at their hands. I was heading to the airport after the end of the course today and I told myself to identify the biggest threat mentally as an exercise. After observing hundreds of people I spotted an individual with his hands across his belly under his shirt. This gave me pause as I passed by and immediately thought he is the biggest threat. That’s when a female TSA agent yelled at the individual to leave and he started cursing back acting like he had something in his waist band. I immediately took for cover without even thinking about it and observed immediately security take him. Not sure what was in his waist band. This stuff is real and it works now the practice is on me. Thanks again and looking for many more courses in the future. Great birthday present to myself but oh man am I sore."
"I've taken various firearms and defensive training courses from several different groups and nearly every course that Sheepdog has to offer. From my experience these guys are very good at what they do. The Protector courses in particular are absolutely fantastic and the VQC course is perhaps the most fun I've had at any training. Their Pistol and Carbine courses are great as well and the I've actually done the Singleton Security course twice because it was so cool the first time."
"I had the privilege of training with these talented instructors. The amount of knowledge they packed into a weekend of training was astounding. Hands down, the best training I’ve ever received, from instructors that knew what they were doing and wanted to help their students. Thanks SDR!"
