Reviews of Barrington Plantation State Historic Site
"It was fun to see how people used to live. My children were intrigued and I enjoyed the details of the place."
"I loved going through the house, little building, and the barn area. The outdoor kitchen was fascinating. This place was very historic. I truly enjoyed visiting and would go again."
"You must visit this place if you're into farms and history! Even if you're not, you will learn a great deal about Texas history and how they use to do this back in the day. The people here are fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable. The animals are cute too! My husband and I even got to take a tiny bundle of onions home with us. The land in this area is absolutely gorgeous and you will fall in love with this part of Texas!"
"What an amazing place! The staff is INCREDIBLE! They answered all my kids' questions, provided extra information and were patient and excellent at explaining concepts to children. The farm is so neat and we learned all sorts of things about early Texas, farm life, farm animals, gardening, cooking....we have been here several times and it appeals to people of all ages! Highly recommend for a fun, educational tour. I'd recommend doing the tour at Independence Hall first, as the two experiences fit nicely together! There isn't a lot of shade, so dress lightly, wear a hat and be ready to ask questions!! My kids were 12/9 for this visit, but they also loved the farm in younger years. We have been reading the Farmer Boy book and studying a farming block, so this was a great enrichment for us!"
"Phenomenal educational experience for all ages. My 10 yr old son now has a different perspective of present day life to hard labor life with no technology. He has been inspired in a jaw dropping way. He told me the other day, out of the blue that he really enjoyed "working" on a farm. I have seen a positive change in him; going from a lazy gamer with an attitude to a young boy who completely comprehends what life was like in the 1800's. In all honesty, had I known that this excursion would be an eye opener, we would have gone a long time ago. We had so much fun! Great family experience and I encourage all 4th grade Texas History classes to have an all day field trip. Unforgettable experience!"
