Anson Mills, located at 303 North Oregon Street in El Paso, Texas, is a landmark institution with a rich history. Anson Mills, often referred to as "The Father of El Paso," was a self-taught engineer who played a significant role in shaping the town of El Paso. He was responsible for the original layout of El Paso, as well as the iconic Anson Mills building.
Mills first arrived in Texas after leaving West Point in 1857 and quickly made a name for himself in the area. He was hired by the Military to survey various forts and encouraged his brothers to move to El Paso. Mills was also involved in various business ventures, including a silver mining company in the Big Bend area.
During the Civil War, Mills served in the army and eventually reached the rank of Brigadier General. After the war, he continued to make contributions to the development of El Paso, including working on the Grand Central Hotel and studying water resources in the area.
In 1910, Mills collaborated with architect Henry C. Trost on the construction of the Anson Mills Building, which still stands today. The building was a pioneering example of reinforced concrete construction and was one of the first concrete skyscrapers in the United States.
Anson Mills lived in Washington D.C. when he was not in El Paso and wrote his autobiography, "My Story," in 1918. He was buried in Arlington Cemetery in 1924. Anson Mills' legacy continues to be celebrated in El Paso, where his impact on the town's development is still evident today.

"Great area and awesome parking garage. There is so much within walking distance to do, and things to see. My personal favorite place in this area, is the restaurant Anson Eleven. Specifically on the second floor for the fine dining. As far a downtown is concerned, it is easy to get here from I-10 and easy to get home."
