"Charming working class neighborhood in central Amarillo. The area has kept its historic charm despite "modernization" efforts, condemnation, and other activities that have removed structures. Great neighborhood to live in, across to good parks and cool local businesses. Good mix of people. Historic markers are up throughout."
"One of Amarillo's oldest neighborhoods featuring many historic homes. Unfortunately for the neighborhood a very large area was cleared in the mid 1960's for the construction of I-40 and the Canyon E-way, some homes were moved to new sites but many were simply leveled. Despite protests and a city council meeting in 1957 that concluded almost no local's supported a "central route" By 1965 construction was nearing completion and I-40 had cut Amarillo in half and leveled almost all of the neighborhood's once bustling commercial cores. Today alot of the neighborhood is beautifully preserved hower many sections have fallen victim to urban renewal and are particularly ran down."
