"Do not book a hunt with Chris Leland. Four of us drove down from Oklahoma in January of 2023 with high expectations and were sorely disappointed. We hunted the same sheepless property for three days. On the first day, we were dropped off in three locations and told to sit all day. On the second and third days, we all four were sent with a single guide on walkabouts on the same property. We saw no fresh sheep sign and only one old kill site."
"Ripped off. DO NOT pay Chris a dime. 3 of us drove over 24 hours for the hunt of a life time, seriously, 2 retired veterans have major health issues, for a 3 day one on one guided trophy Audad hunt. Sunday we were to meet Chris so he could introduce us to our guides at 10 am. He was a no show. He called at 10:30 pm and asked us to meet him at 7am. We did. Chris showed up and took us to a mountain and pointed each of us to a draw and said he would be back at 1:00. At 1:30, he then had us follow him in our own truck over an hour away. He again just left at at 2:30 starring at a mountain and came back at 7. We asked when we were going to get our one in one guided trophy Audad hunt. He said this is a guided hunt. He told us to meet him back there at 7:15 the next morning. Against all of our better judgement... we did. At 9:30 he was a still a no show. We left and went back to pack up our camp. We will be stopping by the sheriff's office on the way out to file a complaint."
"Book with someone else for a guided hunt. Please read! My wife, my dad and myself drove 24 hours from Wisconsin. I was told we would meet up the night before the hunt to scout and go over details. When i called the afternoon before the hunt, i was told we can’t scout because the guide wanted to go to a football game. I was told someone else would meet with me so i could site in my gun (to make sure it was zeroed). That person never showed up, therefore i couldn’t confirm my zero. The guide knew my party had 3 people. The morning of the hunt, he shows up with a two seater truck.. we had to use my truck and my gas all 3 days. Day 1 of the hunt, i spotted the 5 animals for the day which we could not pursue due to almost no property access. After we bought lunch for our guide, our day ended at 3pm, with 5 hours of day light remaining. The guide then went to the bar (he told us later on) Day 2 we seen even less animals, but the sheriff of the town warned us about the shady guide service we hired. The guide said it was all lies, then later told us we would possibly break certain rules/laws if it meant filling a tag. Day 3 the guide arrived and informed us his truck was not running properly, we would all have to take mine for the day. He has another truck but it uses too much gas is what he told us. During conversation, it came up our guide was single. Over the course of the 3 days, he mentioned my wife was a “keeper” multiple times to which i agreed. At one point the guide sent me on a “stalk” by myself. Leaving my wife back with him to keep watch. He then asked my wife if she had any sisters similar to her. In my opinion, highly unprofessional and inappropriate. Do yourself and your wallet a favor, do not book with this outfitter."
"Chris is a very nice man no matter what people on here say. My rifle didn't make the flight connection and he let me use his. He also let my brother and I come back for free for a second hunt because there werent adequate animals on the first hunt. My brother did get a shot at a ram on the first hunt at 420 yds and missed. It was the only Auodad we saw on that hunt. We returned 6 months later and hunted another 3 days from sunup to sundown covering every piece of land we were allowed to hunt and there was no sign that any Auodad had been on the property for months. The first trip there was a herd of about 20 Auodad on a neighboring mountain on property we couldn't hunt, but this trip they were gone. The guy cleaning the rooms at the ten bits ranch which owns the mountain the Auodad had originally been on said the sheep had left months ago. The ten bits is directly next door to the hunting property so if you decide to go this is by far the most convenient place to stay. The land Chris has available for hunting is very nice and looks like it could hold sustainable amounts of Auodad, but I believe it has been hunted to the point that the Auodad have left. My brother and I put in 6 days of hunting over 2 different times of year and saw 1 ram. There is no plan b if there aren't Auodad aren't on the huntable property. We were told to just grind it out, which we did, covering every inch of huntable land with the hopes that any Auodad we're left, but nothing. Chris says he has more leases just waiting for the ink on the paperwork to dry. He also told us this the first trip so maybe in the future there will be more options if the sheep aren't on the main property. Knowing what I know now I would have gone with a reputable outfitter."
"Me and two friends booked this hunt, excited to get away on a free roaming, guided hunt in the hills of West Texas. We had the worst experience possible. Our guide picked us up on Friday morning to head out hunting, he picked us up with another hunter in the truck. The guide instructed us to follow him out to where we would be hunting for the day. We were confused, but did just that. After an hour drive into the middle of nowhere, we appear to arrive at our destination, a beautiful mountain ridge. We unloaded the truck and prepared to set off. That is when our guide told us that unfortunately they were short handed on guides that day, so me and two friends who had paid for a guided hunt, were literally told 'you can hunt this whole mountain ridge, if you are still here at 6pm time to call it a day'. Needless to say, we did not see a single animal. The next morning, we woke up thinking you know, these things happen, perhaps they really are short handed. Maybe today will be the day, we left again pretty excited and hoping that Chris and his team would redeem themselves. Nope... We again left and drove for an hour, to at the time what we thought was a private piece of land in-between two mountains that Chris swears the animals crossed between daily. Not a single animal. The best part was our guide, who was actually a really nice guy and just works for a liar and con artist, told us that they had not seen an animal on that place for years and had hunted it the past three weekends with other victims and of course did not see anything. At this point, we asked to go back to the trucks and informed Chris we would be leaving. He had the audacity to ask for more money, to cover the cost of his land fees and guide fees. We had already paid our deposit, got dropped off and had no guide for a day and got taken to a dried up piece of land on the second day. He was not getting another penny from us. I suspect that Chris brought his 'reviews' on Facebook, because after reading other reviews on google, it appears he has scammed others. Avoid this lying, manipulative and scamming 'company' at all costs."
