"Update Review: I have worked with AI&D now 2 more times since my original review. I had Luis install a new fabric top for my Miata as well as install new leather seat covers for both. The OE cloth was just looking really beat up and it was time. I cannot say enough about AI&D and Luis. So many high end cars, so much nicer than my lowly Miata and Luis treats me just as well as if I brought a Ferrari. The last job were new seat covers and they look like they came this way from the factory. I am thrilled with the work Luis has done and it was less expensive than going direct through Katzkins or other quotes I got from other upholsters for the same work. If you are looking for upholstery work to be done in the Northern Chicagoland area, I would HIGHLY recommend AI&D. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could! *************************************** A friend of mine that works at a local BMW repair and restoration shop recommended this place as they send their work there. My 11 year old Miata's driver's seat had worn through. I called and spoke with Luis the owner and set up a time for me to come by. He was a friendly guy and took a look at the tear and said he could just replace the entire cover of the lower seat. He gave me a quote and I said "Let's do it!" and set up a time to get it done. The day of the service I showed up at the shop first thing, gave Luis the keys and then Luis drove me to work! By lunchtime the seat was completed! I had a buddy drop me off at the shop. I inspected the work. The work looks absolutely amazing! It was like brand new! Now the problem is the other part of the seat looks like crap! I'll have to get that replaced in the near future. There are high end exotic cars there in the lot all the time and this reputable BMW repair and restoration shop relies on Auto Interior & Design for work on their restorations. Based on my experience working with them, customer service, quality of work, I am going to recommend these guys to all my gearhead and non gearhead friends that need work done on their car interiors! I have attached a picture of the work that they did. I wished that I had taken a before pic."
"I recently brought my 2014 Mercedes in for driver seat repair and foam cushion repair. Luis did an amazing job. It literally looks brand new and seamless. The price was fair. The work was done on time as promised I can’t say enough positive about this place truly a gem for interior, upholstery and convertible top repair. I am going to be a lifelong customer."
"Luis and his shop are awesome. I had my 2007 Porsche Cayman S headliner re-lined. Quote was reasonable, he had a huge variety of materials to choose from and recommended something that worked out great. Work was scheduled a week later and completed in one day. All the detail work looks perfect. Really great job!"
"Took my 61 VW here for a new top after having one other shop unable to complete it and another that never called me back due to the same issue. The issue was that I'd bought the top and headliner when I started the resto project back in 2016. They sat in the shipping box until 2020 which is when I finished all of the work (myself) on the car. At this point, the car was just a painted shell and sent to the 1st shop in Woodstock Illinois for it's top. They said it couldn't be stretched enough to remove the many wrinkles it had developed and most likely needed a pad between both. Their books indicated that the 61 did not use a pad & they couldn't make one due to the complexity. The top's maker (Sewfine in California) said I should've been sold a pad but no longer made anything for the 61 as it was too difficult to make & install. They were also unable to provide the pattern as it was intellectual property. They did offer to make the pad but there was a 6 month backlog on orders so I took the car home so I could get everything back on and just address the top issue once it was done & driveable. That's when I took it to a shop in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood which said the same thing about the pad, indicating they'd reach out to other shops and vendors and call me if they found a solution. Never got a call and a friend told me about this shop in Lake Bluff that had done the work for a couple of other VW owners we knew. So a visit resulted in talking to the owner Luis that said they'd do their best to get it done. Also said they may not be able to remove the wrinkles but I told them to proceed as the top would only be used during rainy days. It was October and I was scheduled for mid November due to the amount of work in their queue. Took the car in but the work was then delayed due to another car that finally came in from resto shop after having waited for rare parts and now had everyone focused on completing it. Luis called to tell me this, about the additional delay and that he understood if I wanted to take it elsewhere. I had no rush since it wouldn't be driven until spring so I told him to keep it and continue when available. They started on it about 3 weeks later which now had us in December. Ran into the same pad issue but they suggested buying one from another vendor and modify it as needed. They did show me which hardware parts also needed replacement so I ordered those while they got everything else ready. I did visit the shop frequently to see the progress and was told in detail of the difficulties along with things that were done to improve the design. They finished everything at the end of January and I was surprised at how well it turned out. They'd even gotten all of the wrinkles out ! The results fully justified giving them a five star rating especially since I knew how much work they put into it and literally doing what everyone else said could not be done. Got the car home so I could install the remaining interior items that I'd modified in preparation for it's appearance at the 2023 World of Wheels show in Rosemont Illinois. Kudos to Luis & his crew for the amazing work!"
"I brought them a seat that I pulled out of a junk yard for my 1967 Impala. They stripped it down to the frame, replaced all of the foam, the burlap at the bottom of the cushion, and they created a custom cover to match my rear seat. Their price was very reasonable and they did great work. I would recommend them to anyone that needs upholstery work done."
