"Every time I go into Kempkers, I am faced with sales people who are rude and have attitude that I don’t get at other hardware stores. Some I know who are family members, which is kind of disappointing to be honest. Every visit, I feel like I am inconveniencing them. It's typically stuff that I can blow off, but after dealing with an extremely rude and nasty lady at the rental counter this past week, I walked out and called Huffman's, their competition, who was the complete opposite and turned my day completely around. The women I spoke to, bent over backwards to help me and were so kind and solution oriented. I had to be patient, and I was willing to be, but it was painless because they quickly took care of finding a solution and I was thrilled with the process it took to do so. I honestly don't understand why Kempkers gets the reviews they do when I don't recall ever being treated in any kind of nice way. I am not expecting crazy stellar service. I work retail too, so I sympathize with other salespeople. I try to be a good customer. All I ask for is polite service and be willing to help solution a problem. That's it. Just simple, polite service and don't treat me like I'm a big fat inconvenience. So I guess I won't go to Kempkers anymore. You showed me more than once who you are. I can take the hint. I have plenty of other choices. I'll go there. Have the business you deserve."

"Im a 44 year old local contractor who spends around $200 a month in this store. I choose to pay the higher prices for all my hand tools and my gardening equipment as a way to show support for this company rather than go to Walmart for the same items at a discount. I went there today for fencing, a spade shovel some fertilizer and tomato cages. Upon entering today the woman working says "the bag stays up front" referring to my back pack. This was said quite rudely. "I don't appreciate being treated like a theif" she then said. "You're upset about it so you must be a thief". I said "I shop here every week and I've never been treated like this." And she said "No you don't, I work here nearly everyday and I've never seen you" calling me a liar. So 30 seconds into my experience in the store today I was called a thief and a liar. Had she simply said "sir could you leave your bag up front, it's store policy" or been even remotely polite this would have gone much differently. I won't be back"

"Tried to rent a U-Haul for a one way trip to ottumwa but they didn't even have 1 vehicle that I could drop off at another U-Haul. They all had to b returned to that exact store."
