Reviews of China Cook
"Sorry this place had good food years ago. I think new owners now and it's terrible. Worst Chinese food I ever tasted. I can tell all meat they use is cheap quality frozen. The Won ton soup was Awe so bad. Tasted like they added soy sauce with water put dumblings in it. Best chinese food anywhere is still gee and jays in Elgin. Didn't feel like driving there so I ordered here what a waste of money."
"Wow! This is THE worst Chinese food I have EVER had! I love Chinese food and eat it frequently and this was disgusting. It went in the trash. It was not edible. I am hoping we don't get sick. Starting with the appetizers: The crab rangoon was not crispy and had an odd taste. Yes it was really filled.... with something strange. The chicken egg rolls tasted like some store bought freezer stored grossness. My family said the pork egg rolls were off and tasted soured. The ribs were too tough to eat and the sauce was some sweet yet vinegary sour BBQ sauce concoction. I don't know. The flavorless weird textured thing claiming to be beef on a stick had an odd smell and taste that my mind just wouldn't let me get past the first bite. The egg drop soup was edible according to my kid. The shrimp fried rice was BLAND. But since I spent $80 and was starving it was edible with soy sauce. The sweet and sour chicken has way too much pineapple in it. It's weirdly sweet. The beef chop suey was flavorless and has bizarre vegetable for chop suey. Who puts zucchini in chop suey!? But the beef in it is the same weird/ gross texture as the beef on a stick. The food was also somehow cold despite sitting there waiting for it and only taking it 5 minutes away. The quality reminded me of one of the cheap buffets after the food has been sitting out for awhile. But not one of the better tasting cheap ones even. But the prices were more equivalent to one of the better take out places. You can get MUCH better Chinese food for this price or cheaper. Perhaps not in this town because this is the second not good one I have tried. But this one was much worse."
"This place has some of the best Chinese food I have found near Hanover park/streamwood/Bartlett. Mongolian Beef is more traditional (spicy and not sweet, packed with beef, white and green onions and includes the crunchy white noodles). The fried rice with shrimp came with good size shrimp. The crab Rangoon is also packed with filling and you can tell they change their oil frequently. We also enjoyed their beef lo mein and sesame chicken. Their food is not salty, but if you like that add a little salt yourself to bring out a tad more flavor. Don’t plan on dining in, it’s not the greatest atmosphere. It is clean but clearly meant for carry out first."
"I ordered the orange tofu for myself and my boyfriend ordered the Orange Chicken lunch special which came with fried rice (or steamed rice) and a pop can. Both items were listed as spicy on the menu but neither were spicy. I saw some flecks of what looked like crushed pepper but I didn't taste the spice. My boyfriend said his food was not good. The chicken was rubbery and it tasted bland overall."
"Crab Rangoon is amazing. They fill them at least three times more than most restaurants. Pot stickers fried are also done well. The honey glazed walnut shrimp is a favorite. It’s very sweet so we usually order it with another dish for balance. We like kung Poa chicken here, but like a little red chili heat added. Same for the hot and sour soup—add some chili and it’s perfect. Moo shu pork is good, make sure to get the plum sauce. Our order, for two, will feed us well for three nights, we like variety and leftovers heat up easily. Two appetizers, soup, and three dishes for $76 \ 3 meals= abt $12 each."
