The Texan Barbecue

"This place is probably my favorite restaurant in the entire state of Illinois. They have the best of the best barbecue. You will not find better barbecue in this entire state. The ribs are insanely good. They fall off the bone the minute you pick them up. The slaw is fantastic. It's not too sweet, and the texture is very good. The beans are a bit too sweet for my taste, but they're still fantastic. The only reason they don't get a five for service is because I don't like the idea of ordering and paying at the register, then seating myself in the dining room. I'd rather it be full service, but that's a lot to expect for a casual barbecue restaurant like this. The prices are a bit high, but very reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food that you're getting. I recommend the pork ribs, the pulled pork, the brisket, the burgers, and the burnt ends."

"This isn’t anything against the owners or staff, as staff was very sweet. But this is definitely not barbecue as you would expect it to be. It honestly seems like Sysco brand products, which could be fine for a sandwich type dish but not great for a meat and three platter. The cornbread muffin was tasty, though it did seem like a Jiffy box mix. The mashed potatoes are definitely something out of a box which was odd since a baked potato is on the menu so there are fresh potatoes somewhere. And the mac and cheese tasted somehow like water. Again, not writing this to be mean, but there are a lot of high ratings on here and if you’re seeking barbecue, this isn’t it."

"Always a good experience. Simply the best barbecue in the area. My SIL came to visit, and he really liked it he is a Texan guy. I have a picky eater at home and it likes the chicken there. Husband and I can eat anything in that menu and don't forget the beans and coleslaw."

"This is an old time rustic barbecue served up in decent size portions accompanied by delicious sides. They don’t give enough fries. Prices are a bit high, but they have a decent choice of meats and the sauces are delicious. Both the baked beans and the various versions of fries are great sides. The atmosphere is rustic and worn in (looks a bit run down) as well as the decor, adding to the whole “rustic” eating experience. Our waitress was friendly and so was our order taker / server. Our food was just as ordered, but the sides were a bit small (and bland). The bbq sauce is decent, but they don’t give you enough sauce and the meats are sometimes overcooked or dry. Prices are a little bit high. The Texan is hit or miss when you roll in for some decent comfort food. Just make sure you get enough sauce, if not… the meat seems a bit dry. But the sauces are decent."
