Reviews of Visitor Center at Palo Duro Canyon State Park
"One of the best of the Texas State park. Camping and hiking are plenty."
"Must visit! Had a great time there! My son and I loved it!!"
"The visitor center is the place to get information about the park. Also, you can get souvenirs, books, and gifts. One important point about the visitor center is that it was constructed by CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), and it is a tribute to them, too. Since Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest Canyon in the United States, it is considered the “Grand Canyon of Texas”. It has geological variation and rich colors. A piece of land 120 miles long and 800 feet deep. Although Palo Duro formation is a relatively young topographical feature (in geologic time, at least) formed less than a million years ago by erosion. The canyon has served as a traditional refuge for Native Americans and, in 1874, was the site of the final and decisive battleground of the Red River War. In 1933, after the state of Texas purchased land in the upper canyon to establish Palo Duro Canyon State Scenic Park. The initial improvements, including the construction of a road to the floor of the canyon, were made by the CCC under the direction of the National Park Service."
"The visitors center us great! The people that work there are always so kind and love to help and tell you about the canyon. It's like a small, free museum. There is tons of information and beautiful views!!"
"Palo Duro Canyon is a Texas treasure. The visitor center on the rim of the canyon is an unexpected treat! The building is historically fascinating, the displays are extremely well curated and the items for sale are high quality and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the visitor center at Palo Duro Canyon."
