"Wonderful hidden gem in the middle of Illinois. This place is amazing. The food is great and the atmosphere was a page out of old Mayberry. My husband had a steak with grilled onions and I had a club with fries. The fries were as good if not better than McDonald’s. The real treat was the variety of home made pies. I tried the pineapple cream pie and it was wonderful. I highly recommend this place if you’re passing through."

"The food is great! Absolutely the best coconut cream pie I’ve ever eaten in my life! The atmosphere is family dining and hometown. Prices are more than fair and the service is friendly! A great little place and we will definitely be back! ****EDIT**** our 4th trip in 2 weeks because we honestly loved it. But as the saying goes service will make or break you! Our young waitress was so incredibly RUDE!!!! Her service was horrible!!! We were polite and kept trying to engage her but she wasn’t having our attempts at being friendly! She wouldn’t even speak a single word to us! It was crazy because this same girl we had last week and we tipped her $20.00 but now this is unfortunately our last trip here! Won’t be back EVER!!! Not paying for poor service!!!!! ***Edit edit*** My son pointed out this sign for being rude they’re gonna charge $10 but I think they owe me $10 for being gracious enough to put up with that rude girl!"

"Excellent breakfast, very attentive service by Megan! Potatoes were perfectly crisp on the outside, creamy inside, bacon was done to perfection. Coffee was hot, delicious, and plentiful. Can’t wait to try the pie, but that will have to wait for an update, I was too stuffed."

"The Purple Onion is one of those hidden gems in a tiny town. The breakfast is great, the burgers are good, but what makes this place as amazing as it is are the people. Everyone is so friendly here! This trip I went for breakfast, it was packed with locals but there was still a table for me to sit. I went with the Country Fried steak with eggs over easy and hash browns, with a full order of biscuits and gravy. The Country Fried Steak was really good, full of flavor and not mushy. My eggs were a tad overcooked, but still runny enough that they weren't ruined. The biscuits and gravy are okay, the biscuits are soft and fluffy, but the gravy is lacking flavor. The raisin toast is always a good choice and make sure you get the honey butter! If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, you won't regret trying a piece of homemade pie with your meal! I recommend coming here for good food and the small town feel of a restaurant that cares about their patrons."
