About the SAFE
SAFE is a lodging institution located at 1515 Grove Boulevard in Austin, Texas, United States. They offer a 24-hour SAFEline for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and child abuse. Advocacy, crisis intervention, and face-to-face emotional support are available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can call 512.267.7233 for more information, text 737.888.7233, or chat online. The institution also provides foster and adoption services, welcoming all families.
One of their initiatives is the "What was I wearing?" Exhibition series, which aims to challenge harmful attitudes towards survivors of sexual assault by sharing their stories alongside representations of the outfits they were wearing at the time of the assault. The exhibition will be held from April 1st to 30th at SAFE's Grove Campus.
The SAFE Alliance is dedicated to stopping abuse for everyone by serving survivors of child abuse, sexual assault, exploitation, and domestic violence. They offer prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities affected by abuse. If you need immediate help, call 911 or the 24/7 SAFEline.
Reviews of SAFE
"Pretty scary at first almost like driving yourself into jail but definatley a place where you are safe, no one can find you in here, can't even tell if your car is parked here or not, perfect spot if you need to be hiding from someone. They can't even say if you are here or not if someone calls."
"I know from personal experience, they are an amazing facility with saftey being their number 1 priority. They provide so much help for me and my family as well as friends of mine who needed the help. Thank yall for everything yalls done"
"This review is for the social services, not the shelter. ++++++ Believe me when I say I have been through some pretty messed up stuff in my life. I had finally gotten up the courage to get help, which wasn't easy. I contacted intake and had to wait a few weeks for the screening call, which is fine I know they are busy helping people. I got on a waiting list for counseling services (4-8 weeks) as well as set up an intake appointment in 2 weeks for a group therapy for adult victims of child abuse. I was so excited to finally be getting help! I finally had hope that things could be better for me. The day of my intake I missed the call because I was in the bathroom. I called back and that line was just a recording. I emailed and even got into their online chat and no one could help me get in contacting with the person I was supposed to meet with. I took a half day off work for this! Eventually I got a cold, dismissive email saying the counselor had left a message with a phone number to call back. This is an absolute lie, I had no voicemail from them. Also in my paperwork I requested to be contacted by email and text, which they did not do. Only 1 missed call and no other communication. I had no way of contacting anyone, they blamed me for what happened. I can't tell you how upsetting this was. It took so much strength and courage for me to reach out only to have the door slammed in my face. They said I could reschedule with the next opening in ANOTHER 3 WEEKS! This place literally lied to me, I'm done with them."
"I sought help from Safe Alliance in 2010 in surviving abuse I'd suffered at the hands of my adoptive mother. In effort to cover up the abuse which included me suffering repeated SAs since just 10 years old, I had not been allowed any education or medical or dental care beyond 12 years old. Safe Alliance not only refused me any help but disclosed to my abuser that I'd made an outcry, who brought me into their facility and that I was living with them. Several years later, Safe Alliance hired my abuser, an admitted child predator, as a SA advocate. During this time, my abuser openly discussed the cases she worked, getting off on telling the stories, without any regard for the safety, dignity or privacy of the survivors."
"When looking for an organization to volunteer with The SAFE Alliance is easy to call home. They have such diversity, empathy and love for healing that even as volunteers we benefit from all the good that is happening. There is something for everyone here and at all different levels. With some incredible training you can become a direct volunteer with the staff serving their clients. You can help with fundraisers, social out reach programs, children services and more. I was lucky when a friend told me about SAFE in 2013. I went through the training and it really changed my life in the most fruitful ways. Since then I have served on fundraising events, community outreach and celebration events, accounting, assisted with children services at the school, started an endowment for volunteer inspired ideas, created a sketching class for the childrens emergency shelter, and even have done a few murals on their campuses. The latest one was in Nov. 2021 when we painting a moving truck that is used for storage, but a bit of a eye sore for the staff and clients. It was the first group volunteer project since covid and we all were so happy to be back together. When we come together with a common goal, beautiful things happen! This mural project represents so much of the joy that comes out of being a volunteer at SAFE! As a donor, volunteer and advocate for SAFE - I say come on board and let the healing continue to lead the way to brighter days for us all. Here are pictures of the truck mural project."
