Mermet Lake State Conservation Area Belknap, IL 62908

"Didn't know what to expect when we came here. We drove on the Levee surrounding the water. There were beautiful views of the lotus plants and the cypress trees in the water but that was about it. We did see a bald eagle and some herons. What was truly unique was when we were reading about it and found that this water is released into an area where they do duck hunting and we were more intrigued with how that was done then the lake itself."

"We stopped by on our way to Kentucky and I was blown away by how pretty it is and how much wildlife is here. So many egrets, and a lot of herons, spiny soft shell turtles, and I'm sure much more. I loved the cypress trees."

"Very clean and well maintained. I saw someone catch a catfish that looked about 2 foot long and really wide. Very quiet nice scenery. There was a lot of people out there fishing so the fish must be biting ! These photos were taken late June in the evening."

"Beautiful nature area to fish or hunt. Go to their website for all info on fishing and hunting rules and regulations at Mermet Lake. Numerous locations to fish, hunt or picnic. Restrooms available around lake. Plenty of room for multiple people to come and boat. Doesn't have play area for children to play so keep that in mind if you're looking for somewhere for kids. Numerous docks around lake to fish from or fish from the bank if that's your preference."

"Beautiful clean lake. Great place to go for taking flower and wildlife photos. Lots of areas to fish from as well. We love to drive around the lake. It's a large, peaceful place."
