"Beautiful area for hiking and camping. Very scenic trails. Be very vigilant for ticks during the summer though. Otherwise, wonderful area. Lots of good photo opportunities!"
"Not the best sights in Shawnee. I was passing near there and needed to stretch my legs after driving 7 hours, and this short trail had good reviews on the trail app I use. My first mistake was going mid afternoon- lots of young kids hauling coolers down the stairs and making unnecessary noise. They were also driving like idiots on the road incoming, which is loose rock and very bumpy, so it gets quite dusty. Most of the trails are somewhat difficult to follow as they are overgrown. We ended up under the natural bridge on a trail, and some idiots were up top throwing large boulders down to the bottom, nearly hitting myself and others. I think if you go early morning before the morons get there, it would be much different."
"The last road into Bell Smith Springs is pretty rough with lots of potholes. We arrived about 11:30 and there weren’t many cars there. We had so much fun making our way through beautiful Bell Smith. I like to go after it rains so the water is flowing and trickling down in little waterfalls. There’s a spot that is commonly used for swimming in the beautiful clear water. If you’re brave you can climb the steps to a big rock and jump in. When we left at 2:00 there were many more people arriving."
"Lots of steps so would not suggest to those that struggle with steps, but absolutely beautiful place to visit. 61 large awkward steps followed by 61 short awkward steps. See photos. Well worth it!! The spring and devil's backbone are great little swimming areas. Rock outcroppings to explore and climb. Kids 1.5 and 5 loved it also. There are several spots for parking, but no large parking areas for an rv or trailer. Our large truck had to go sideways a little to fit."
"Great hike, even though the trail was a little overgrown. Felt more rustic. But the stairs that were built in to the cliff were really awesome! Seems like someone started a house, from the feel. The roads to this trail head, however, were paved and very nice. We also drive down the smaller road to the right as you drive in, and you end up on the bottom of the bluff right on the water. Really relaxing and beautiful."
