Reviews of Cultivate Behavioral Health & Education
"My son went to Cultivate around 2020 to 2021. I was asked to place a review by the company recently. My developmental pediatrician referred my son for ABA therapy when he was three. He started therapy with Cultivate, doing about 36 hours a week, eight hours a day. This is what they recommended. The behavioral technicians were very kind and patient with my son. He always came back with a smile and I know he had a lot of fun. They helped him with potty training and other things related to what you would see in occupational therapy. They did try to work with him on his speech but that did not progress. I had to get him discharged because he was ready to start kindergarten. The therapy clinic suggested I do half days at school and then half day sessions but I did not feel comfortable with that. I wanted him to have the same opportunities that his other classmates had with his education. I asked if we could do an hour or two after school but that was not an option for Cultivate because that would not be his average amount of hours met. This felt strange to me. Refusing someone therapy because they can’t clock in a certain amount of hours was questionable. I understood that they felt they needed more time with him to help him progress on his goals but to completely refuse to work with him if we could not promise half days made me feel uncomfortable. This pushed me into more research into ABA therapy and if this was something necessary for my son. I recommend parents to really do proper research with understanding if ABA therapy is the right choice for your child. I’m not here to to talk smack about Cultivate or ABA therapy in general, but most developmental doctors will instantly suggest ABA therapy if your child is diagnosed as autistic. I feel that this should not be the case for every autistic child. It depends on so many other factors. This therapy is ridiculously expensive even with insurance involved and the BCBA typically isn’t working with your child in these sessions. The technicians are working with them with the BCBA guiding them, but I felt with the amount of money I put into this therapy, it should be someone with the degree being hands on with my son. Overall, the technicians treated my son with great care and never once did I feel like I couldn’t trust them. They all loved my son and I knew he was happy there. Was there much progress with his goals outside of potty training him? I don’t think so, but that’s very dependent on the child too. It wasn’t until they wanted me to cut his school days in half that I began to mistrust the whole idea of ABA. It made me feel like my son was looked at as money. We never went back to ABA therapy. My son just finished 1st grade. He’s intelligent, empathetic, and very outgoing. He doesn’t fit the stereotypical definition of what most people think autism is. Most autistic kids don’t because they are all different with their own journeys. I cannot stress enough to parents to make sure if ABA is the right choice. Do your research. Don’t let a developmental doctor who saw your child for maybe 20 minutes make that decision, or a therapy center who makes huge amounts of money on your children suggest this. You are your child’s best advocate."
"Cultivate ABA could not meet the needs of our family. About two months after starting in-home services with Cultivate, we were given a deadline ("
"Working for Cultivate has been an amazing experience. I have been with this company for over 4 years and the company culture at Cultivate Stone Oak is everything. The clinical manager and operations manager are incredible people that are always looking to better our clinic by taking care of our clients and staff. Our technicians are so caring and helpful; they work so hard to make sure our clients get the best care! The BCBA team is dedicated to each of our clients and make sure everything we do is to support them and their families. We recently worked on a clinic training and discussed why we are in this field and working in ABA, and my reason is our families and clients. We are so lucky we get to work with such wonderful families!"
"Go anywhere but here. No one on this team is on the same page as to how to work with your child. They will compare your child to other clients. You will be told how horrible parents of other children they see are. Makes you wonder what they say about you! They all disagree with each others approach when they speak with you privately. Their presence just adds to the confusion of how to control all the extra that comes with having an autistic child. Our sons behaviors were much worse the day we stopped services with them. They continue to send bills to us that our insurance company has never seen and no one from accounting will return calls or emails for the last three months."
"Great place. Individualized approach, open communication, great positive reinforcement techniques and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend"
