"I went in for a colonoscopy, came out with Covid and now my 3 year old, 3 month old and wife are sick too. How unprofessional can one place be. They took 0 precautions, in the beginning of fall for that matter. Thanks guys!"
"Sally at check in is a blessing to your building. She’s so welcoming and was just all around a very happy and helpful person. You are lucky to have her."
"To Whom It May Concern: My Mother was scheduled for a Vitrectomy on no March 27, 2023 with Dr. Ricca. As of 3/26/23 8:00 P.M., we had not received a call or any correspondence regarding this surgery other than surgery information sheets and correspondence with Bronan in Dr. Ricca’s office. I am sure this not standard procedure? On 3/26/23 At 7:55 P.M., we still had not heard from the surgery center. I called Dr. Ricca’s office number hoping I could speak to the physician on call. After leaving a voicemail regarding our concerns/questions about my Mother’s surgery, Dr. Shirkey returned my call at 8:14 p.m. I explained our situation to Dr. Shirkey. She suggested we arrive at the surgery center at 8:30 a.m. on Monday 3/27/23 for Mother’s procedure. Monday morning: 6:30 a.m. Mother got a phone call on her phone from the surgery center. However, Mom was not able to understand the person calling. Mom was able to ask the person for their number so I could call them back. I returned the call to the surgery center at 6:33 a.m. the representative said there was an opening for an earlier surgery appointment if we could get here by 7:30 a.m. We arrived at the surgery center 7:29 a.m. 3/27/23. The receptionist told me we were really early for Mother’s appointment. I told her about the appointment change made earlier from another staff member. The staff was not friendly or cordial with Mother and I during registration. Because of the lack of communication between all parties involved, Mother and I were unaware of a $250.00 co-pay to be collected on the day of surgery. Not having been prepared for this, I told the receptionist I would drop the payment off after Mom’s follow up appointment on 3/28/23. 3/27/23 - 8:30 a.m. Mother was called back for surgery prep. Nurse Kate came in and started doing the paperwork and prep for surgery. Then nurse Jill came in to complete the process and start an IV. Jill had difficulty getting the IV in Mother’s arm and after two tries, asked another nurse ( Sherry) to do it. Sherry did not have any problems. Unfortunately, Mom wasn’t taken back for surgery until 10:08 a.m. As many people have to go through surgeries either for themselves or a family throughout one’s lifetime. I can honestly say, our family has never experienced such unorganized medical staff for any surgery we have received. We were very disappointed in the way my mother’s pre surgery procedures were handled. I would not recommend this surgery center to anyone else. We found it strange this surgery center neither had My Mother’s insurance information nor her medication list and allergy records from the Dr. I feel overall, there was a lot of miscommunication between the entire medical staff at both retina associates and Baptist Health surgery center as well as communication to the patient and/Patient representative. As explained during my Mother’s initial visit to Dr. Ricca’s office, my Mother is hearing impaired and all calls, emails and texts should come to me. Information listed below. This information was also provided during her initial visit and should have been sent on to the surgery center. I am happy to say, my Mother’s surgery went well and she is doing better. While we are pleased with the care Mother received during this procedure from Dr. Ricca. There certainly seemed to be a breakdown of communication between the two medical facilities involved in completing this procedure. The baptist health staff were very rude to us during check in. (Which is addressed directly to them). My family and I are currently hesitant to have to deal with Baptist Health for any type of surgery or medical procedure. The staff members who checked my mother in were very rude and unprofessional. We were treated as if we had made the mistake when in fact, it was lack of communication between the surgery center and the treating physician staff. Which I am sure was addressed immediately. "The other reviewers were correct. The nursing staff was rude, hurried and rushed. They tried to make it like it was my fault they were hurried and rushed. I was there , on time, for my arrival time. They were causing my anxiety levels to go through the roof while they were rushing around and verbally stating how rushed they were. Then the one nurse who put my IV in was very rough and it was the most painful IV stick I've ever had. I usually don't flinch when getting IVs because I've had c sections and other surgeries. She then pouted like i hurt her feelings because i expressed it was very painful. I didn't berate her I just said .." that really hurt". Then I apologized to her . I'm gonna have an awfully bruised hand . Then in recovery it was rushed too. Once awake they got me out of there quickly.Recently, I had had surgery at the Main St. Joseph hospital and they were kind, comforting and proficient. Today at Baptist health center off founTain court was the worst surgery experience I've had since a c section in a military hospital 33 years ago ! I will be completing the survey forms they sent home with me. My surgeon was excellent though."
