"My husband broke his calcaneus (heel) and was referred by the emergency room to Dr. Estes. Upon first visit he was informed surgery was most likely necessary, but a CT scan was needed to make sure there was no damage to the joint. He also stated he would not do the surgery with my husband being a smoker. My husband quit smoking, and went back today for follow up appointment after having the CT. (A week has passed since first visit at this point) He was informed that there is joint damage. Surgery is still necessary, but now the Dr. refuses to do it because he "used" to smoke. We called to get a referral so that we may find a podiatrist willing to give my husband the medical treatment he is in need of, when the receptionist informed me "Dr. Estes does not have to refer him if he does not want to". If you value your ability to walk, it is suggested you find a doctor that treats you based off of your medical diagnosis and not his current mood."
