"As it is difficult to find Black/AA therapists and counselors in the Lexington area, especially female, we were very excited to find this office with its diverse staff - kudos!! The disappointment however is in not being able to get consistent appointments. Out of 5 (maybe 6) appts, 2 were cancelled because they were scheduled on days that our particular counselor was scheduled to be off - 1 of which we weren't made aware of until we arrived for our appt. The other, the counselor informed us when we mentioned our next appt and she said that couldn't be right because she was off that day. On another day (3rd cancellation in all), our appt was removed from the counselor's appointment book because the billing person/office mgr couldn't reach me for a $16 co-pay , which are required to be paid in advance. Advanced payment I understand, but being that I'd previously paid $60-70/session (don't recall the exact co-pay prior to deductible being met), I don't understand cancelling an appt for such a small amount, especially since I had no other balance and would have gladly paid at the time of the appt had I been extended that courtesy. So, our counselor was aware the appt had been cancelled, but was not aware that we were not... again until we arrived and she was not there. Then, wanting to stick with the counselor we had, when we called to schedule other sessions, she was booked a couple of weeks out AND per office policy you are not allowed to book more than 2 sessions at a time, so it's a gamble as to when you will get in with the counselor of your choice. It could be weeks. It could be a month. Following our last visit, I asked to meet with Mr. Lee, the owner/co-owner. He was on a phone conference, so we were welcomed to wait. After an hour, we left, understanding he was busy and this wasn't a scheduled appt. So, I left a message with the receptionist requesting a call from Mr. Lee, but, to my knowledge never received one. From the business side of things, I understand wanting to have as many clients on the books as possible. Counseling is a business and they have bills that have to be paid. I understand, but from a client perspective, allowing clients, maybe at least those in on-going therapy, to book more appts in advance to protect and preserve continuity of care, would be something worthy of serious consideration. Still wishing them the best because mental health in the Black community is a highly under-served area."
