Reviews of Bourbon Barrel Retreats
"We really enjoyed our stay at the Bourbon Barrels, we stayed in #6, it had its own hot tub, grill and two chairs, on the deck to relax in, and enjoy the wild life. There are a few things that would have made our stay much nicer if we had known. First of all you will need flip flops or something to walk between the barrel and the hot tub. Stepping stones would have been a very nice addition. If you don’t bring something you will be walking barefoot on a crushed stone path. Big fluffy bathrobes would be a nice addition. The tub isn’t right outside your door, it’s not far either but far enough to freeze in February. I would have brought a light weight one. Just to have something. Although the barrels are spread apart nicely, people can see you in the hot tubs if they are driving, or walking the loop, so you may want a swimsuit. The little bathrooms are well equipped with plenty of towels, shampoo, and conditioner, but really could be improved with some hooks in the shower, to hang wet suits on. I would bring some magnetic hooks next time, since I think the shower is steel. It would be an easy add by the owner, and it would keep dripping suits where they belong. The kitchen is pretty much fully functioning, it’s equipped with a microwave, small fridge, no freezer, coffee pot, coffee, creamer, sugar, cups, spoons, glassware, a hot plate, pans, paper towels, utensils, plates, bowls, dish was detergent, and I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but you get the idea, you really could cook a meal. The bed was very nice, seemed to have a memory foam top, and the perfect amount of blankets, and it was awesome waking up to that view. There isn’t a TV, we didn’t miss it at all. The phone service is LTE, with very few bars sometimes, so you may want a good book, or even better good conversation. Most all the barrels had steps going down to them. Not just 3 or 4 but maybe a dozen. Whatever you bring will need to be carried, as luggage wheels are no match for the crushed stone steps. Trust me it’s worth it. Restaurants are a good 20 minutes away, so is the closest grocery store, so a little planning will be helpful on the food front. All in all it’s a beautiful location, and an experience we won’t soon forget."
"I really like the atmosphere and the unique barrel room. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. The hot tub was wonderful on a cold day. No TV. I really feel there should be a TV for when the weather is not good. Really far from any activities or restaurants. These rooms are not handicapped accessible"
"First time staying and it was beautiful. Love it was gated and enough space between the others there was PLENTY of privacy. Hot tub was great. Only suggestion is curtains/blinds over the front door and maybe some hooks to hang things. This will be a place we return to for sure!"
"Great time. Love the concept. It was private, cozy, unique, we stayed in #6 with a private with a hot tub. It is located in the middle of several different distilleries for easy exploring. We will recommend to both friends and if we ever come back to Kentucky. Cheers"
"Loved the Barrel Retreat. Service was great and the accommodations are perfect for relaxing stay. Hot tubs and outdoor Solo Stove fire pit was awesome. Only issue we had was the portal window in bedroom. It fogged up for the sunrise. It was below freezing outside and the inside was nice and warm. Would 100% return as it was located within 20-30 minutes of so many distilleries."
