"Lexington Clinic charged me a copay for my annual physical because Dr. Eason deemed the things we discussed during my appointment were outside the realm of a physical. After speaking to billing and the medical coder, I sent a message to Dr. Eason through the patient portal to clarify my thoughts about the visit. I received a call 3 days later from someone in the office who said he had forwarded the email to them to call me and say that he still believes the discussions we had about my health were outside the normal physical and that I did owe the copay, which I have now paid. Obviously, we do not see eye to eye on what is part of a person's overall health/well being. If he had told me at the appointment that I would be charged a copay because of the things I was mentioning, I would have had the choice to continue or just keep it to myself. I may have continued on. But I may not have. But he never indicated this was beyond a normal annual physical, so I never had the choice to the make that decision. If I can't talk to my doctor at my annual physical about things affecting my daily life without him treating that as a separate visit, and not warning me in advance that was going to be the case, then he's not the right doctor for me. Or maybe for you either."
