""I can't help take care of others if I don't take care of myself first." These were my words to Dr. Flake when I first met her on February 24, 2020. As a husband, dad, granddad, son, brother, uncle, pastor, educator, and friend, my weight was again having a negative impact on my health, in turn, having a negative impact on my relationship with others. (It's bad when you can't ride the roller coasters with the family any long or avoid swimming when you love the water.) I decided to make a change, and after passing and seeing Dr. Flake's office, even with 'Spa' on the sign (not for this guy), I decided to make an appointment - and kept it. I believe accountability is important, but I am particular and private with my health issues (writing this because I am thankful for how Dr. Flake has helped and she deserves a 'shout out'). It didn't take long into the appointment for me to decide that Dr. Flake was personable, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The accountability she offers extends beyond the office appointments. She is 'on call' for her patients and ready to provide support - impressive. Using my health work-up and considering my input, Dr. Flake guided me into a weight loss plan catered to me, my lifestyle, and my goals. By May 18, 2020, at the end of 12 weeks, I had lost 50 lbs. Today, the end of 14 weeks, I am down 60 lbs. I am still working towards my initial goal, but Dr. Flake and I have already began to talk about a plan to maintain when that time comes. If you are ready (because it only happens when you are); if you need help (not a sign of weakness); be honest with yourself and just make the appointment (and keep it btw).
