Reviews of Cook Children's Emergency Department - Fort Worth
"We had an outstanding experience, and I suspect people leaving negative reviews weren't actually emergencies and that's why they're shocked that it takes so long. Our 3yo had abdominal pain and I suspected intussusception. We waited around 5 minutes on Friday at 5pm, and then within the hour had lab tests, x-rays, ultrasound and an IV going. Looking around at the dozen people in the waiting room, I didn't see anyone bleeding or in distress: mine was the only child crying in pain. This leads me to conclude people are overusing the ER for non emergencies. The staff was competent and efficient, more so than other ERs I have been in around the country. Communication was clear and nurses checked on us frequently. I really have zero complaints, so decided to leave a review this hospital deserves, five stars."
"Our Experience was horrible! Our 7 month old was feeling ill & so he had some tests done. We had to wait five hours in our actual room to get results back! My husband and I ended up walking out the room and hospital since they were taking too long and our baby was not feeling too well. Ended up getting the test results within minutes on the online portal. I understand there are other patients going through something similar or much worse but it shouldn’t take too long to get to the patients. I definitely don’t recommend."
"Be prepared to wait. I saw a lot of 1 star reviews due to wait times, and honestly my opinion is that there needs to be more pediatric emergency care available in the area to reduce that. It seemed efficiently run, so I don’t feel I can complain much about that. We were quoted 7-8 hours when we asked, & we got a room at about 5.5 hours, I think because people had left that were ahead of us. The staff were all helpful, ensuring everyone was taken care of, and the nurses were fantastic."
"In this emergency room you can live between 4 to 16 hours, so you can be prepared to not see anyone attending to your “emergency” for a long time. I brought my son in and hoped they would treat him properly, but they used urine test tubes that hurt parts of him, traumatizing him. In the end they used a gentler method to do this same test with a bag, don't they know how to treat a child? They are savages wearing nursing suits. Try to find another place, it is not a good option here."
"I will never go to this hospital ever again. I took my 3 month old baby here this past week. What A Mistake. I needed her to be checked out because she bumped her head pretty good. Just needed some medical attention to ease my concern... We were there for 3 hours, never ever did a doctor come to check on my infant. We were sent to one room which seemed fairly clean. Told to make sure she would intake food, so I breastfeed her right away.... no one came back to check on her for over an hour. By then, she was eating again. Next we're asked to move to another room due to the area we're in closing for the night. At the same time, they say they're overwhelmed with patients. I complained that we'd been there a while with no help thus far. I was assured I'd be seen soon and was being moved to an area called "fast track". The pics are of the dirty room I was taken to in fast track! Filthy! I was scared to take my baby back out of her stroller. I didn't want either of us to touch ANYTHING in that room. They had first taken me to 2 other dirty rooms prior to this one. The bed had CLEARLY been used, and the trash and linen bags had not been changed at all. I was once a hospital housekeeper and you are NOT ALLOWED TO CLEAN A ROOM AND LEAVE BAGS FULL FROM LAST PATIENTS IN ROOMS! The trash was literally full to the top of the can. You also have to change the sheets out and wipe the bed railings and surroundings of the bed which was not done. No housekeeper leaves one railing up after cleaning a bed. These are things you get in trouble for. Housekeeping knows this. This Was A Joke. After all of the hassle, my family and I just left because no doctor was even close to coming to see us. I spoke to a nurse, she apologized, and said we were welcome to leave if we chose and agreed we'd been waiting quite a while. Never again!"
