"Went to Camp Peniel for 7 years. Some of the happiest memories of my entire life. While I am agnostic, I was raised to believe it's not a bad thing to have god on your side. My high school year my grandparents passed away and the owner offered to cover that year. I didn't have the words for appreciation. Only one year were my chiefs not the best, and I had times where I saw kids get hurt. I also saw good people turn into great people. I saw tears of joy shed and passion and miracles happen at this place. I saw incredible feats of faith and athleticism. Until high school camp I feel there's a fair balance of bible study and activities. My only issue I feel with that would be I guess for years as a kid you want the freedom to go where you want, but then you finally get it in high school camp and the con is then nothing is organized and you got dozens of cabins in different places so you can't do the group things you would when everyone was on a schedule. I would say there should be a high school week based on that freedom if that's your preference, and a week that's scheduled. I know more about the camp than most kids did. It's a beautiful safe place unless you break the rules. I'd gotten ear infections 2-3 times cause I was too lazy to use the alcohol they gave for the pool. One year I broke the weight limit and had a councilor blob me and my back got messed up so bad I couldn't walk for a day. None of that mattered though cause the fact is the nurse is awake 24/7 for all the kids and even if not she will wake up at ANY TIME AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR KIDS. You will find no shortage of role models and friends. I had some years I got overwhelmed by the walking. I recommend inserts but I know that's something you don't hear until you start a job but I'd seen other kids over the years struggle cause it's up and downhill terrain but that's part of the challenge. You can go as slow as you want and there's always good supervision/information when your day gets crazy. Food is always amazing, water is plentiful also. If you walk at night ALWAYS use a flashlight and be careful. There's cactuses near some of the trails and even chiefs twist their ankle from time to time but that's mostly boys being boys. If you want your child to challenge themselves to learn about god and have a thrilling experience of siblinghood, opportunity, and amazing group activities as well as learning different skills please go here. You might get distracted and wanna stay in one place too long. It helps to move as much as possible though. Trivia and stories are also a major plus at any time especially camp fires. Some great morals and lessons to be learned. There's a lot of things that can happen at Camp Peniel, but one thing is for sure, it's a holy place."
"Went in the 80s and they scarred me for life talking about the day of rapture being upon us and how we would go to hell if we ever had an abortion. I can relate to the few bad reviews. Strange how the majority have an opposite view."
"Best memories of my life, and so far the best memories of my kids lives. My son has learned more about himself through God's eyes than anywhere or any other experience. I am so grateful for camp peniel. Their loving staff and focus on helping everyone Meet with God is incredible. The facilities might not be the fanciest, but that's just part of the charm. Also, my son confirms, the food is still the best."
"I took my son for a father/son retreat organized by my sister's church. The staff was great. They were kind, friendly, and looked like they love their work. They made a delicious chilly hot dog and hamburger on Friday. Saturdays meals were good, but because Friday dinner was delicious it made Saturdays meals substandard. We enjoyed the Zipline, the gym, shooting, archery, slingshots and building a rocket. The property is nice. The river water was murky when we visited, but that was because of the rain they had previously. That's what I was told by other guests."
